. Do I have to pay TV Licence fees if I am paying cable TV subscription fees?
Yes, you have to pay your TV licence fee as long as you have a TV set on your property. Subscription to cable TV services offers a greater choice of programmes for viewers who choose to have them. The cable subscription fees are for television services over and above the regular free-to-air local television channels, which are available to both cable subscribers and non-subscribers.
so bottom line is.. wat tv liscence is for again? Just becos we own tv we muz pay. I really dun understand.
Kinda.
yes...if U have a TV U have to pay.Ur cable TV subscriptions technically do not include the free-to-air channels but it is not explicitly stated because it is presumed that U do have a valid TV licence.
likewise if U have radio in ur car...U also have to pay radio licence fee even if U only play MP3s with it.
if not MDA no money to sponsor TV programmes lar...
I think it's more of a 'we are paying for the free-to-air cable/wire' in our house right?
itt's more for your local drama or cultural programs.
The fund was allocated for The Little Nyonya
I already subscribe to Starhubs Cable TV liao. To watch EPL next season I had to subscribe to Singtel Boardband TV leh. To watch World Cup I had to pay some more. Why should we pay for TV licence? I listen to Internet Radio C-SPAN, VOA, BBC worldservice why should we pay more for Radio licence? I even pay movies online to watch latest movies from Hollywood & Hong Kong production. So why should we continued to pay for something that is fast becoming irrelvant in this new world
(Comparing Singapore TCS channel 8 & channel U versus China Network TV) it is like Heaven and Earth. Last night I just watch "Da-Sheng-shou" voice your opinion. The debate on Chopsticks versus Saving Trees. I am so impressed by China Telvision Network. This is an interactive TV, where people from different gerneration from 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s get to listen to both sides of the aurgement and voice their opinions. Especially the Shanghai lecture taking on the Beijing Lecture on a fierce debate. China TV is no different from watching American talkshows (Ricky Lake, Jerry Spring..etc) while I was living in USA Portland Oregon. There was another progamme "sheng-hou-shi-shang" Life Fashion Talkshow, when the parents set up her daughter that being a homewreaker is dead wrong there is no happiness being a 3rd party relationship. You will NEVER see such TV progamme in Singapore, this is really FREEDOM
Tv license is really expensive.
Somehow Singaporean believe that Singapore TV Networks enjoy a degree of high standard of automony. Wait still Singaporean comes to watch Amercian TV Nework and China TV Network. I watch this China talkshow where they allow ( 9 wang-you/ 9 net-citzens) on webcam of all different age to voice their opinon LIVE on TV. They dicuss all kinds of topcis. My beliefs is Singaporean are frogs living in the well, in this battle of the information age, clearly from what I had seen TCS 8 is lacking way behind in terms of drama making, interactive talkshows, zero automony on selection of topics. Funny things is Singapore Network is still talking about OB Markers, Singaporean till today don't know where the line lies, whereas others are way ahead of the game.
Why pay TV licence? I watch Korean drama, Japanese drama, Taiwan drama, Hong Kong daram for FREE on the internet of course from others people Blogs too. Just pass around your thumbs drive
I had taken Shanghai Metro their subway train, and BRT Bus and Tube, well it is exactly like taking a ride on our Singapore MRT trains. I heard Singaporeans often complain about too many China citzens working and living in Singapore. Over here in Shanghai you had no diffculty in spotting out (Breadtalks shops) that operate 100% like StarBucks. In fact there are plenty of Singaporean working here, and investing their business here. This is the New Trend in a Globalized World, on one hand you lose a little, on the other hand you gain al ittle, which result in a win-win situation
I wonder if Australia has TV licence fees.

Yes, the tv network in china is akin to that of the states. Their country's big compared to Singapore.
Your 2nd para is totally out of the point. We're talking about 'tv license fee' here; not about the big picture
The TV licence is for owning a TV. You have a TV, whether working one or not, you have to pay.
Don't have, but have computer, still must pay. PC also considered TV.
Don't have TV or PC, but have radio or HiFi set tuner, then must pay radio licence.
Don't want to pay any TV or Radio licence, them make sure you don't have any.
This is out of point, but your pang sai throne also must pay. $3 per month per throne.
