WRITE-UPS ON NEW STALLS
Fried Kway Teow/ Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodles
(Song Le Fried Kway Teow and Hokkien Mee)
Ms Janet Ng from Song Le has been frying up Char Kway Teow for the past 12 years at her stall in Macpherson. Aside from using good-quality ingredients in her dishes, she also has her own special sauce for frying Char Kway Teow which has made it popular with many regular customers. She also maintains a high standard for her Hokkien Mee and uses only good quality fish sauce.
Fish Ball Noodles
(73+1 Fish Ball Noodles)
Mr Tang Kwan Chye learnt his trade through his father who started making fish ball noodles in 1968. The fishballs that Mr Tang serves are much larger than normal and are made from a selection of fresh fish.
Goreng Pisang
(Lim Kee Orchard Banana Fritters)
Mr Lim Kim Yong, from Lim Kee Orchard Banana Fritters, was one of the original Gluttons Square hawkers. He started selling Goreng Pisang along Koek Road in the 1950s and moved his stall to the Orchard Road Carpark in 1968. In 1978, like the rest of the hawkers at the Orchard Road Carpark, his stall was relocated to Cuppage Food Centre. In the 1980s he also opened two more stalls at Rasa Singapura and Somerset House. Mr Lim's son, Lai Heng, has now taken over the management of the stall and currently manages their stall at Maxwell Market Food Centre.
Aside from Goreng Pisang made from imported Pisang Rajah from Malaysia, his regular customers are also able to savour other items such as Chempedak (a tropical fruit with a sweet, juicy yet creamy texture), Sweet Potato, Yam, Tapioca and Green Bean. The secret to his tasty banana fritters is his special flour mix.
