5-6 June 2012
Transit of Venus
Last of our lifetime as the next one is over a century later in 2117. Fingers crossed for clear skies.
The planet will be vissible as it passes in front of the Sun from 10.15 am to 4.43pm (NZ time) on 6-6-2012.
So for Singapore. It will be during the Sunrise tomorrow at 6.15 am to 12.43 pm .
Thankfully a break in the clouds and overcast sky. I thought I'm cursed to miss this last one after similar cloud cover in 2004. Managed to take several shots under the hot sun and happy to have witnessed this phenomenon.
The scientific name is :
Sun occulted by Venus.

An occultation occurs when an apparently larger body passes in front of an apparently smaller one. A transit occurs when an apparently smaller body passes in front of an apparently larger one.
If Venus is bigger than the sun then it's an occultation.
