Getting my new Saab 93 in two weeks time.
Heard that saab cars have dry battery problems ? Is this true ? Current saab owners - Any problems ?

Maintenance-free batteries are supposed to last around 24mths. But for our 9-3SS, I think a combination of heat and high utilisation (9-3SS have electric everything), you'd be lucky with 18mths. So at 18mths, do a voltmeter. If <10volts, better renew quick!
There will be no warning whatsoever of an impending battery failure. Your car, just ...dies, or simply will not start! -

The 9-3 is a great car to drive, you won't regret it!
Battery wise, as far as I know most of the others have not experienced problems but mine died after 9 months. Maybe it was a dud or had been sitting around the warehouse. Like Greymatter says, no warning, car just wouldn't start and got "immobilizer failure" on the SID.
I called the Eurokars hotline and they came around to replace the battery for free (still within the 1 year warranty). At least the response time of about half an hour was not too bad considering it was New Year's day.
Hmm, voltmeter... something new to buy! Woohoo! -
The Saab 93 is a great car to drive, Even though is has only 150bhp. My friend drives a 93 Aero in U.S.A , bought it at half the price for 93LPT in Singapore. Added the BSR ECU upgrade and 18"Rims etc - 300 Bhp...Man... this car flies. Even the S60 R Lost to his car.

Of what year is the oldest 93ss in town? '02 or '03? How much was it worth then?

I think the 9-3ss went on sale here beginning of '03, can't remember exactly when but prob Jan or Feb. I got mine in Mar '03, the COE was quite high then so the cost was around 130k.

Bought mine at $122K. Will be ready in two week time.Brand new.
I Was fishing around for 2nd hand Saab 93- Found a Red - Few months old at Katong Plaza - Dealer selling it for $110K. I Told him that he can't sell it for another month till he drops the price below then $105k. 6000 Km for few month old - It's a good deal. Anyway - If you buy a car in Singapore - Prepare to throw away in the rubbish bin SGD 50K to SGD 180K for Cars ranging from Proton,Toyota to Volvo S60/Audi/Saab/BMW etc. Do you sums and you'll know that it's true.

Saabee: welcome to the club! Hope you'll enjoy your SAAB as much as we do. Sure there will be problems, some people have less, some more, but it just lends "character" to the car IMO. Don't forget to post pics in the PicStop!
TE does sell used SAABs.

How: Leave your car overnight. In the morning, before you start your car, turn on headlights, including the high beam for 10secs. Turn off headlights. Now get a voltmeter and measure the voltage across the terminals. If <10volts, I'd be worried. -
It is very very difficult to tell when a battery decides to die. It will work fine one minute and die the next minute. This is especially true of maintenance free batteries. Just measuring the voltage does really mean much, what matters most is the battery's ability to source current.
For a wet cell, it is a lot easier to predict since it will usually die slowly and gracefully. And you could also see the condition of the plates in the cell. They also last a lot longer if maintained well. -

Just Collected my new car ... It's my new baby for the next 1000km.
The Audio needs some work to be done should be improved !
So far so good. Much much better than the Old S40 and the new S40. Only if they could improve the suspension and handling of the car - The S40 is nothing compared to the Saab93. -

I agree that the suspension is a bit poor on our rides. I wonder what if the Aero is any better or the upgrade to the sports suspension is any better. -

BLACK RULES But the difficulty of maintaining it is driving up the wall!!! Who knows at teh rate the paint dulls it soon it might be a steel grey
