To share:
I always thought my family ties with relatives from my mumÂ’s side were really bounded, but an incident really woke me up.
A few days before SARS out-broke last yr; my grand dad (mumÂ’s dad) was also admitted to TTS. He was diabetic n had a weak heart tat time. His right foot started to turn black n eventually rot. That had to be amputated. His toes on his left foot also started to show signs.
The first batch of admittance of SARS patients was an amputation day for grand dad
After operation, he was sent to be isolated coz he was one of those from ward 56.
It was suppose to be a short stay of only a wk for him, but it dragged to more then a month.
During this a mth stay, he had 2 op. His 1st op was to amputate his right foot, but it has spread to his knee cap n had to undergo another op to amputate till to his thigh.
Our main concern was not how much the bill was, though that was one of the small factors.
Now he is wheel bounded, no one can actually take care of him, only solution was to get a maid. But during the period before maid came, my mum asked her youngest sis whether she could drop by frequently as she stayed nearby. Her immediate ans was: “[b]Ah pa dunno whether got bring back diseases anot, I still need to be survived to look after my kids” WTF, how can she gave such replies. She shunned her own kids from visiting their grandpa, not forking a single cent n such words can still come out.. I respected her as she was a teacher to the down syndromes kids.
