SINGAPORE : Singapore Airlines has advised the two major plane makers, Boeing and Airbus, that it is considering placing new orders later this year for a range of aircraft.
The new planes will be for fleet renewal and future growth needs.
SIA currently runs one of the world's youngest passenger fleets, with an average age of five years six months.
Right now, it has 84 aircraft -- 30 Boeing 747s, 51 Boeing 777s and three Airbus 340s.
SIA also has 20 planes on firm order.
Of these, eight Boeing 777 and two Airbus 340s are due to join its fleet in the next two months.
Also, 10 Airbus 380s will arrive in early 2006.
The carrier has in addition placed options for 45 more aircraft. - CNA
