Changi Village Rd end closure

  The Straits Times reported that MINDEF is going to close the end of Changi Village Rd soon, due to security reasons.
  
  This is indeed a sad occassion for commercial aviation buffs, and would also mean that Runway 20R will soon no longer be as enjoyable as before.
  
  Any comments on this?

  Btw, pardon me, but does Changi Air Base have its own runway or uses Changi Airport runway?

  Sad to see them closing this area, ohh well this is Singapore for you. When runway 20 is used, it's a prefect place to spot planes and take photographs too. Ohh well, it's all gone and it's hard to find another good place to spot planes other then the Terminal.

  The KC-135 and F-50 from the air force uses Changi airport's runway.

  I went there today, but nothing much in the eveining
  
  this is because the wind is blowing from the North east, so the planes will take off towards the north east and land from the south west. Hence, it is rather difficult to take photos unless one has the SLR camera. The only highlight today for me is watching 9V-SGA take-off in the afternoon.
  
  For those interested in getting a piece of th action before it closes, take svc 2, 29 to changi Village Rd and then follow the road all the way to the end. One can also take svc9, 19, 89 to B21 Loyang Ave, then turn right at the junction and follow the road straight to the end. Its a 10minutes walk from either way.
  
  New metal gates had been erected about 100m after the housing blocks at Farnborough Rd, so i guess MINDEF can close it anytime they want.

  What? KC 135 and Fokker 50 uses CGIA runway? Does CGAB has runway actually?

  Changi Air Base currently does not have its own runway. It uses the Airport's runways.
  But CAB will soon operate its own runway ( Runway 3) located near the naval base, on reclaimed land; apparently for a new fighter squadron.

  Went to the changi village road end today, a lot of family and met a spotter there, they were all enjoying with the plane take offs (runway 02L) , absolutely a family feeling over there.

  Nope, CAB will be still be there at Loyang. The new gates mark the boundary of expanded CAB. New runway is seperate extension.
