SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced a wage freeze for the current fiscal year for all management level employees as part of its efforts to weather the current economic downturn.
In addition, senior management will adopt a shorter work month from Wednesday, with lower level managers following suit from May 1.
SIA said these are among the range of measures the airline is taking to address excess staffing capacity and reduced levels of activity arising from its capacity reduction of 11 per cent.
It won’t rule out further measures to cut costs.
SIA added that it is in discussions with pilots. — CNA/vm
freeze?

They cannot retrench people lah.
Government introduce job credit scheme to make sure that retrenchment is kept to a minimum.
If SIA retrench, then some people up there no face.
Already the local bank retrenchment last year caused a lot of unhappiness.

Now this part is interesting. Remember what I said about pilots based in other countries working for SQ in the other thread???
"It won't rule out further measures to cut costs." = Retrenchments are gonna come. Just a matter of time, sooner or later.

It is the people at the bottom rungs who are going to suffer the most, not the execs...
I don't think this is funny, quite the contrary.
If there should be retrenchments, the stupid-people-at-the-top-but-don't-know-how-to-make-smart-decisions should go first.

Who says cannot retrench??? When SIA says something, it will do it.
As long as "customers" not involved, loss of face = usual.
so im not the only 1
