You're definately correct my friend. If only the top management acknowledge this rather than everything cert cert cert.Imagine in my department this Apron officer chap who has 36 years of airport experiences don't even know how to send telex.I'm as an Operation assistant always assist him.The Lead assistant who is a rank lower than me is much more smart than him.But ground handling wise he's a genius. On top of that he know many peoples in CAAS,SIA,Unions etc...

Actually the older people are better. They have more experience. The new chaps all scholars "smart" but not pratical wise "smart"...
SIA proposes pilots take unpaid leave to help cut costs
SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines (SIA) has proposed its pilots take
unpaid leave to help the company cut costs. Airlines around the world
are facing falling passenger numbers amid the global financial crisis.
Speaking to Channel NewsAsia, President of the Air Line Pilots
Association of Singapore (ALPA-S), P James said SIA is suggesting that
captains take three days of leave without pay every month, while first
officers take four days.
Captain James said his union is still discussing this proposal with
SIA. But he said the union wants SIA to provide figures on how much the
proposal will affect the company's bottom-line before deciding on
whether to accept it.
Captain James added that the pilots' pay structure has already
factored in cost-saving measures and said the airline needs to explain
why further measures are necessary.
A captain's average basic salary starts at S$10,000 a month, while a first officer's starting pay is S$6,000.
When contacted, SIA declined to comment as discussions with the union are ongoing. - CNA/vm

Or a possible merger?

That will never happen. At least not in our lifetimes.

Never say never. It might be unlikely in SQ's case, but economic conditions in the future might force them to consider such a move for their survival.
Talking about mergers, I drove past Northwest's hangar earlier this week and spotted a couple of ex-NWA A330s freshly repainted in Delta colours. It's hard to believe that NWA, which has been based here in MN for several decades, will soon cease to exist as a corporate entity. A few of my friends in the flying club fly for NWA, and they had to switch over to the new Delta uniforms on April 1st.
they must have been wishing it was a april fools joke...
sad. NW's livery looks much better than delta's anyway. alright, biased opinion. lol.
yea, a merger is very possible in our lifetime.
even if the economy gets back up to its feet, the middle east airlines which copied SQ's strategy to a certain extent will serve to pose a huge threat to them, simply because of geographic location, and that is something that SQ cannot change.

I agree. Delta's white/blue colour scheme doesn't hold a candle to NWA's silver/red livery.
What was weird, though, was seeing an ex-NWA 744 in Delta colours. Delta hasn't had a 747 in its fleet since 1976.
oh yes, heard that the first 744 has been painted..
anyway apr 1st was the date where all flights are filed under the delta preffix eh?

Delta has yet to climb to the same service standards to what was once Northwest...
And yes the change of uniforms... Very sad. I heard cross-fleeting has already begun...

NW's livery is much better. Actually I kinda of like the older version of the Northwest livery, not the last one but the previous one...

Looks like a mix between United(winglet) and old Delta colours...

Cross-fleeting has begun. Technically it should be under the Delta prefix but not all is the case. But planes can now be subsituted between the two entities in the company.
lol, delta is as good as those sichuan face masters, face change time after time, well atleast they kept the widget. haha

And that was the B747-100... Long time... I wonder what the new Delta is going to do with NW's oh-so-horrid-and-old DC9s...
It doesn't look that they are going to retire them anytime soon...

I hope you said this with your tongue firmly planted in your cheek....
Replace climb with descend in your statement for a more accurate depiction of NWA's customer service standards.

SQ will not merge.
Reason? Coz they have their name to uphold, and SQ is an airline that will do anything to protect its name. Merging will just bring the standards(what people perceive SQ to be) down...

Nah... Continental is much better. The best of the US Majors if you asked me...
Even better now that they are joining Star Alliance...

Oh, come now. The DC9/MD8x isn't that bad of an airliner. Aside from the two aborted take-offs I've experienced on them, they're actually very safe and reliable planes.

I know they aren't. But they are unreliable and have serious weight restrictions and issues pertaining to hot weather. Cargo is also an issue. Payload and range isn't good too.

Hmmm... don't know about the unreliable claim. This is what Wikipedia has to say about the DC-9:
"The DC-9 is one of the longest lasting aircraft in operation. Its reputation for reliability and efficiency drove strong sales of its successors well into the 2000s. The DC-9 family is one of the most successful jet airliners with a total of over 2,400 units produced; it ranks third behind the second place Airbus A320 family with over 3,000 produced, and the first place Boeing 737 with over 5,000 produced."
