SIA charges for exit row seats on economy class
SINGAPORE: Some customers always opt for the exit row seats on flights because of the extra legroom.
From now on, these customers will be able to get a guaranteed exit row
seat on Singapore Airlines flights, but they will have to pay US$50 per
sector for the privilege.
This is applicable for economy class bookings.
For example, customers going on a long-haul flight to San Francisco can end up paying US$200 more for a return flight.
Previously, such seats were only available on request, and subject to availability.
SIA says it may extend this Preferred Seat Selection programme to other seats that offer more leg room in future.

i thought that wasn't a very common trick. cos of the "in case of emergency you must agree to help the flight crew" thing.
heng i already changed this habit after my car accident.. now i prefer the last row or last few row......
Soon you need to pay for breathing the air inside the cabin.

how about less seats and more standing space like MRT or Bus. more poles more pole dancing and take away the in-flight entertainment. get some half naked sexy beer girls to sell beer. I guarantee them they will make more money

cannot, must be child friendly =P
Ok, I'm screwed. I'm like 6 '3' and I always request for the emergency exit seat. If you are a 6 footer, there is no way you can fit into one of those regular economy class seats, it's like seating in a freakin box car and imagine being coiled up in that position for a 16 hour flight, it is just a horrible experience.

Yup i experienced this recently.
The stewardess or whoever walk pass keep bumping me.
Therefore i could'nt sleep causing me to suffer jet lag.

Simple solution to this issue.
BOYCOTT SIA!!!
Choose alternative airlines that allow you to request exit seats without charging you an arm or a leg. It's their loss if they lose revenue from such indiscriminate charging.
Ask them to throw in a parachute.
Next time they will charge for aisle and window seats.
What's the extra cost to them?
Zero.
Next time they will implement ERP when you get off your seats to move about.

I have the same problem as Quincey so most of the time i am taking the emergency exit seat.

Next time they will charge you for toilet usage, by every 5 sec.
So now it doesnt matter if you are elderly, disabled or child, as long as you pay the extra charges, you can have the seat and no need to help with the emergency door?
anyway i already boycott SIA long ago, because they treat local as lower class customer.
Whenever i speak normally, the service i get is much lower, and often with a fake smile. But once i switch to American accent as i have studied and worked there for 12 years, the treatment is totally different.
1 example that i always tell my friends, there was once a local lady ask for a seafood meal, she was 4 rolls in front of me. The stewardess say she ran out of seafood meal and gave the lady a beef meal instead. When it is my turn, i purposely ask her for a seafood meal with american accent, to my surprise, she pulled out a tray of seafood meal and give to me.
there are alot more examples as i travel alot. which is why if for my own personal travel, SIA is never in my consideration list.
fark!
Lucky i not charged yet. hahaha
that would include front row seats or the seats near the ermengency exit?

You are just the right person to work in SIA's price setting department.

Believe me, you don't want me working in there, else you will be charge every time you , call it a tax.

Great idea.
SIA can call it a "Please be considerate to other passengers if case you too loud" tax.
Well Eva Air had an Executive Economy Class, you pay more yes..but you are in a whole different class, more leg room, larger seats, better services and all. So yes, even it is part of their marketing scheme, at least I'm paying for better services. But with the SIA proposition, it's s if I'm paying more because I'm naturally endowed with a 6 foot frame, so somehow I have to pay a surcharge for being larger and bigger than the average person.
I am a frequent flyer, is this the way I am rewarded for all the years I've patronized the SQ band name? I certainly hope someone in SQ PR is reading this.
take other flights..lols..SIA standard also dropped liao..last time SIA is kinda reputable with the chio air stewardess & friendly service..
but now...take a look @ the air stewardess =.='''
service mah..only so-so..there's 1 time my friend had to make the same request 3 times just for a copy of the newspaper..
Fin airway not bad..super spacious =D the best so far..
midget passengers should ask for discount
