SINGAPORE, Aug 1, 2008 (AFP) - High fuel and airport costs have forced Singapore budget carrier Tiger Airways to suspend services to the Australian city of Darwin from October 26, the airline said Friday.
"The cost of operating to Darwin is the highest of any airport on the entire Tiger Airways network," said chief operation officer Steve Burns.
"Combined airport and fuel costs in Darwin cost more than any of the 27 airports that the airline serves across Australia and Asia," he said. "It is just incompatible for a true low-fare airline."
Tiger will continue to assess the situation and resume services in the future "if costs become more reasonable."
Affected passengers will get a full refund.
Tiger will continue to fly between Singapore and Perth and from Melbourne to 12 other points in Australia.
