SQ orders more A380s and ...

... the all-new Airbus A350XWBs!
Singapore Airlines announced today at Farnborough Airshow in UK, their intention to purchase 20 A350XWB-900s, 9 A380-800s and leasing 19 A330-300s.
This is a follow-up order on the 20 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners ordered a few weeks ago.
The airline is expected to receive the first A350XWB-900 in 2012, while the A330s will be an interim solution before the arrival of the A350s. The A330s, leased directly from Airbus, will enter service in 2009.
With the new order for 9 A380s, SQ has now an outstanding order for 19 A380-800s, with options for 6 aircrafts. -
This certainly came as a shocker.
SQ is gonna have a ver diversified fleet in the near future.
And watch it. EK and QF are gonna do something real soon. -
Wow, would love to see SQ's A330 ! This is a shocker especially after Airbus losing their plot with their A350 and delay of A380.

Think of it this way, it could be part of the compensation package for the delayed delivery of the current order of A380 due this year... By offering trade-offs as part of the compensation, SQ might not have the option but to increase its book order with AirBus...

In a recent development, SQ signed a deal with Rolls Royce to provide engines for its 19 Airbus A330-300s. RR Trent 700 was chosen to power the A333s due for delivery in 2009.

Singapore Airlines have signed a firm order for the additional 9 A380s previously announced at the Farnborough Airshow in July.
SQ also signed the deal to lease 19 A330-300s.
It is also reported that Silkair has ordered 20 Airbus A320s - 11 firm and 9 options. It is not known what model of the A320 Family has been ordered. -
