i heard that cathay has improved alot in terms of service and in flight entertainment. is this true?

I never fly with CX, always SQ. But my friends told me that the routing for CX from Toronto to S'pore is better. Hence, I would like to try for my next trip. -

Flown with Cathay , they are not fantastic . Normal service just like overrated SQ. But they are alright afterall they won the skytrax award last year.

Personally I prefer SQ over CX cos SQ has a wider range of service throughout the flight eg warm towels.
In terms of inflight entertainment, CX didn't have on-demand movie facility so it was rather boring having to wait for a cycle to end so that the new movie will be screened. I prefer an on-demand facility so that you can pause anytime or watch a new movie without wasting time.
In terms of seating comfort, I find CX a tad crampier than SQ. Wasn't an enjoyable flight at all.
I must say that the professional service rendered by the flight attendants were very good at least. Same, if not better than SQ.
The foregoing views are based on my experience on the economy flights.

sq economy is suppose to be the best in terms of legroom compared to others' economy if i'm not wrong. =)

on the way back get two days in HK to visit relatives too... -
isn't cathay better in terms of service and also the costs compared to SQ???hmmm......heard that from someone though never did really take note of that.........anyway whatever flight.....i still go by our own SQ carrier................

well ... to side track a bit ... I think hong kong's chek lap kok is a better airport than Singapore's in terms of customer service ..... surprise surprise eh ? ....
I think Changi has gotten too complacent ... -
Me still prefer to fly SQ most of the times if me have the choice...

Well, HK Airport newer also... Bus svs there runs 24 hrs as well -

it's not just about throwing money at a problem and having fantastic architectures and all that .... a good example would be KL's new airport ... you know the baggage handling system there was so bad it has become a classic case study in some software engineering texts ? ...Originally posted by sbst275:

it's about the "heartware" too .... the people ... the service personnel ... the frontline people ... Singaporeans are famously laconic and "tau" ... the hongkies have a worse reputation than us on that score ... but their customer service is way way ahead than Singapore's .... and yes ... even Singapore's vaulted Changi airport .... we have truly lost the edge ... the service personnel dare not or cannot make any customer service decisions, check in staff dunno their jobs and tried to smoke me ... bullying third world country travellers .... these are all the things I've seen with my own eyes .... but chek lap kok's service staff on the other hand .... -
I would recommend Cathay Pacific over SQ for the SIN-HKG route as the food is generally better from what I saw from airlinermeals.net. Moreover, one big plus for CX is not having to put up with the "ang moh" elitism and robotic plastic smile that plaques a fair proportion of SQ's cabin crew.
It's quite true that their seating arrangement is somewhat more crammed than SQ, with frequent complains by dissastified pax about broken seat backs etc. However, I'm confident that CX had taken these feedback to task and improve on their products after losing the Skytrax best airline 2006 award to fellow OneWorld member British Airways.
