How did most of you learn how to fly?

  ^ yea, how? And how expensive is it to take the flying course to get a private pilot licence? Where in Singapore can learn how to fly other than the youth flying club ar? I was in the Youth Flying Club once but I quit halfway after earning only a student pilot licence, so now I want to continue earning my private pilot licence.

  try going to malaysia. they have good quality schools there. thier instructors are superb. it cost me only 8k SING dollars.... quite a deal.

  Wow! Now that's a deal! Haha...
  Anyway Johor Bahru have any flying schools? Because I want to continue staying in Singapore during the entire course. I'll just travel via the causeway whenever there are lessons.

  hmm..i do not know of any johor flying schools. but im sure there is i think. if not...the nearest u could go is malacca or kl. but yeah its very far. since u will spend more than a year in the training. for me i spent abt more than 50 weeks completing the course. its long...but its fun.

  oh yeah....when i say abt 8k sing dollars...it means..those cessna small planes i will pilot. but if u wanna commercial ones...then it will cost u a whopping 60k sing dollars.... abt 150k ringgit. so wad i took is just a basic small scale course. no money lar....

  I learn how to pilot cessna type of planes satisfied liao. I think if next time I go go commercial then try to apply SIA I think the flying training would be much cheaper.

  you can try here. this is where SIA pilot hopefuls go to get thier commercial pilot licence. dun think SIA wanna hire and train new ppl right..? correct me if im wrong. but i heard from a source...the fees in the school can go up to staggering 150k!! i dun noe abt tat la... but its worth it...cos SIA recoqnized the school...

  anyway i'm currently enrolled in the republic of singapore flying club.. piloting a socata tampico tb-9. was previously from the singapore youth flying club where i trained on the piper warrior 2. both planes handle similarly..
  
  but yeah in singapore the 2 main private ones are seletar flying club and republic of singapore flying club.. i think the singapore flying club is the best cause i heard seletar makes u pay monthly but u dont get to fly much.. singapore flying club - at least once a week u'll get to fly.. of course youth flying club and sia's flying college is best but those come with restrictions and conditions..
  
  in malacca.. can't remember the club name but their callsign is academy.. they train over both land and water. runway orientation is similar to seletar. heading is the same (03 - 21) and elevation (39feet) too. They also operate piper warriors if i'm not wrong.

  Hi Tayysj, i was wondering to enrol in Singapore Flying College, do i need to obtain at least a PPL first since if i'm not wrong only CPL and above courses are available there? Can i actually obtain a frozen ATPL from SFC?
  
  How are the fees like? Would like to save up after i finish my NS.

  when you say SFC I'll assume you meaning Singapore Flying College (becos republic of singapore flying club is rsfc but short formed as sfc as well)
  
  anyhow, from what I know, the college is for SIA pilots to train. in other words, you must already have joined SIA. However, you do not have a PPL and therefore SIA has to train u on the Cessna in the college to get you a PPL. Thereafter you will go on to ATPL and then flying as a first officer on an SIA jet. So I doubt you can join SFC by yourself. =/ But I might be wrong. You should give them a call and check instead. =)
  
  Other ways include going to other clubs/schools to get the license. Some flying schools on Malaysia offer programs that will get you an ATPL. Messey University in New Zealand (I think) provides a degree in air transportation. =)
