what the meaning of the number code

  i did a search on AIrcraft,
  found out that for each model of plane like 777
  it can make down further more like 777-100, 777-200
  
  anyone can explain to me what this mean?

  Different series of the family, with upgrades. Mainly improved payload, fuel effiency etc...
  
  The design may be a bit different too.
  Such as 742, 743, 744 and 747SP...

  Sorry to differ sir, but basing on his question, I don;t think it's different kind of planes. DAlforce is right..its same type but different series..
  e.g B777-200 is the first basic B777, then the -300 is longer ,more seats but with shorter range, the latest B777 -200LR is same configration with pax seating as the first 200 series ( but has ultra long range, thus the LR )
  U guys should check out the engines that will be deployed on the B72LR.!!
  
  Oh,btw, Pax seating varies wz different airlines.
  
  Like Evo6,7,8,9...hahaha..still seats 5 but higher specs ,power, etc..
