My first attempt at ‘modern poem’, written in 1992. At that time I was feeling quite low because I find that friendship is such a fragile thing.
After graduation, all of us went different ways; some I thought were my good friends never bother to keep in touch. And when you called them out, there are so distant and cold. Fortunately a few remain, for that, thank you.
AFTER GRADUATION
I remember in my school days, I used to have many, many friends. And the days were always nearly full pf laughter, full of funs. But once after we graduated, things no longer remain the same. Some of us decided to go oversea, while most worked or joined the army. Sometimes I still called them out for a little chat. But most were always nearly not at home, or simply too busy. And the rest of them said that after nearly a year or less they could not really remembered me.
IÂ’ve arranged the number of words in each sentence from 13 words to 1 single word. These symbolized my numbers of friends decreasing and my feeling getting lower and lower.
I’ve stress the word ‘nearly’ 3 times in the poem because I realize that nothing in this world is 100%, even for something as precious as friendship. Sad but that’s life.
