hong kong police advert, super power!
Maybe Singapore shld have more local dramas that glorify our police force which attract more pple to join.
Like HK, there are so many dramas on detective etc. Recently Channel U @ 10pm is this "The Academy" regarding HK newbies undergoing police training.
Because judging by the look at the number of Singaporeans who are not satisfied with the SPF, mayb we shld have MORE of such propaganda.
singapore has..... heartlanders!
police and thief!
But i really like the HK series you mentioned, nice!

Cannot compare Sg police to HK police. Over here, our dear MIB patrol the area in aircon Subaru car while in HK, they do foot patrol more often. And those 'trouble makers' in HK more daring than Sg. So who should get higer salary?
I think went through this debate le, and the answer is... agree loh.
think hong kong don't have army, so more money and effort spend on police... and they are great!

Generally, the salary in Hong Kong is much higher than Singapore, despite our equivalent GDP per Capita. This is because of Singapore government's policy of not recognising the contributions of the lower wage workers. High pay for Ministers while low pay for workers.
The crime rates for Hong Kong is only slightly higher (0.3%) than that of Singapore.
I wonder what is the pay structure for ambulance officer in Singapore.
Hong Kong (approx. SGD 4,401):
or equivalent; and be able to speak fluent Cantonese and English; ($25,620 per month) or have a pass in 2 subjects at Advanced Level in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination and Level 3/Grade C or above in 3 other subjects in HKCEE (the subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language), or equivalent; and have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKCEE Note (b), or equivalent; and be able to speak fluent Cantonese and English. ($24,050 per month)

Not necessary. If your conclusion of HK police doing more foot patrol than vehicle patrol is drawn from hk serial dramas or movies, in Sg heartlanders also shown the actors doing a lot of foot patrol. We can't draw conclusions from movies. Those are fictions after all.
Moreover, there aren't a lot of sg officers assigned to per precinct and each pair of officers cover a big area. Imagine if you are patrolling at Newton, and you get dispatched to a case at say Orchard Towers. You try walking to the scene... Vehicle patrol covers a much larger area and faster compared to foot patrol. Gotta admit that, and practical too.
I have been to HK once. The tour guide explained to me that their HDB houses, they are not bought from the govt. Infact none of the HDB houses are bought from the govt. Its under rental. Per month 5000 HKD that is like 1000 sing and its much more smaller than singapore. So to them 1/3 of the salary gone. Eating out also expensive. 1 meal, see where u eat, can cost up to 100 HKD. So imagine... everyday 2 meals eat out, 200 HKD, 200 * 30 = 6000HKD... in the end i think pay also not much to them...
But also quite boring in SG to be police. No bang bang here and there like in the Hong Kong TV shows. No excitement at all.

Is a 2 room equivalent to a 2 bedroom in HDB's context?
Are you sure junior police officer with ITE cert can apply for it?
