  i would say home cooked... but if you're talking abt cosy little restaurants...
  there's one at changi... a little italian restaurant..

  CHANGI, 10: Porta Porta, far east end of Changi Island, phone 545-3108. (I stumbled upon Porta Porta quite by accident. It is totally out of the way, and practically nobody goes there. Not to mention the restaurant is across the road from our largest correctional facility (i.e., prison). Anyway, entering the restaurant is like walking into the dining room in a friend's home. There are only 10 tables, and it is run by an Italian marble dealer [from the south of Italy, and proud of it], and his Singaporean wife. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING on the menu is authentically homemade! So don't be surprised if the Tiramisu you have today tastes a tad different from the one you had last week! [I know my own concoctions are seldom consistent.] But you should taste the stuff they serve! Out of this world! This one's a perfect 10. All you Singaporeans out there, go check it out, okay? But call for a reservation first!)
