Seriously, the $380 dollars which was collected is terribly pathetic.
10 people attending ++ so many overhead and fixed costs.
The price, and the amount of attendance is seriously hindering people from signing up.
Perhaps there is another solution.
Why not we go buffett?? eat all you can.
$38 dollars can pay for 3 times bbq at marina south and enough money for drinks.
The lucky draw, there are 10 lucky draw winners, so just nice, everyone goes home with a prize.
Hope you are not going to pull any of the 10 members and do an impromptu act.
The commitee forms more then 50% of the people who have paid. That means
the commitee is going to welcome 5 people into such a large venue?
I seriously suggest postponing the BBQ to a later date from a business perspective, you may choose not to heed me , but more convincing need to be done. Assuming
Budgeted revenue - $570
Food + Event + Prizes = $200
Rental of area = $200
Mis expenses = $ x
Not to mention this is one of sgforums.com most important event , not discouraging you all , but do a rough budgeting please..
I suggest we hire a special chartered bus to take 40 people from bedok mrt station to the area at 6pm and another bus to take people back at 10pm
After that, we hire 2 waiters dressed in tuxedos paid $8 dollars an hour
With regards to the prizes , and lucky draw , i think it could be forfeited because if no more then 20 people applies for it , there's isn't any fun because most of the time , they will get "chosen"
Why not minus off the lucky draw prizes instead and use the money for other stuffs , don't forget to set up an account specially to provide for in-cash excess cash is needed ? with regards to performance i think its a good idea
Spare cash is always safer.
It's a big event , just like prom night , the most important day in a secondary school calendar , some secondary schools cancel it because of high costs and many other significant factors.
Seriously , since you all call it a dinner and dance, you all would have to look into the matter of ratio of female to males, hope you all got a ratio of
1:1 .So no one would be left out.
With all the reasons i plead above, i myself, with utmost respect for the organisers , urge the organisers to perhaps postpone the D&D , alot of stuffs can be improved on.
Not to mention that we need waiters to serve wine, wine costs almost $30 dollars per bottle. -
My dream D&D would be whereby the cost is still the same, but the quality is different whereby .

7.00 pm - Formal introduction of forumites

+ Local Delights

+ Barbequed Salmon
+ Dessert consisting of ice kachang
++ French food/German/Italian food
(during this time , will get to socialise ++ etc and etc..will add a pool table )

Our main priority , is to make sure the forumites, get the best with their money, that means , we give them a hassle free transport problem , some of us don't own cars , especially navigating out of east coast park could be quite tedious at night as well , especially a feeling that they have gained something..
And something which they will not get to do everyday , like sampling of european and italian food, wine
We need to find a point in which , by using economic analysis , the lower the cost , the higher number of people and vice versa...
Thereby , even if raise or we lower the price , the number of people attending are bound to be affected , ceteris paribus .
So with a tiny budget , we can try to improve what we can within our means.
It also depends on the level of willingness .
We also do not really have to give real life "material" prizes , i believe all of us singaporeans are rich and we can afford to purchase any product within a few hundred dollars since we can attend D&D..

the above is more like a gathering we have for the four years,which I been organized and attented.
the foods you serving there are uncook foods and you have to cook your own right?? not all like to cook...

At our DnD, All attentant no need to cook your foods and the foods are for sgforums DnD attentant only, the place are block up, you need a ticket and you must be a sgforums member to attent it, you can sit down and relex play games with free flow of drinks, there are music you even can dance there and there also will be a stage for performent, you no need to clear up the plates, prizes is just a token, thank you all for support and coming to the event we all plan and set up for three month.
We like to invite you and sgforums member to come to the DnD.
Words you can't said much seeing is answers, you want to know the different come down will you find out more yourself.

i appreciate greatly on your ideas and suggestions given.
I personally feel tat this D&D need some serious discussions and preparation further by the organisers but i also do understand tat they have their own setbacks and decisions being made already....
However, your suggestion is truly remarkable to me ....
To Meow : probably wat you can do is discuss with the others (kops/Mos) to get in touch with Smap to see wat can be done and improved on the D&D rather than no further action to enhance the event???
i am just equally concern abt the event and hope improvements can be done too....(i have said many times already).....but being ignored too....
i feel that Smap do have an idea so why not, open up with each other and discuss the probl, make ppl understand more and solve with another head to think abt it....
