Any idea from when onwards singers become so hot?
I mean in the past for example in ancient China. Those 'mai chang' singers seemed to be so pitiful, usually a young girl singing and an old man (usually her dad) playing a music instrument beside her. They are usually bullied by rich men, etc.
Then some where along the way, they became super stars.

what mai chang.. you've been watching too many dramas!
dunno also... i think it's all the promotional activities and advertising?
nowadays we've got bad singers who are so popular, fans are willing to die for them... and we've got good singers whom only a few recognize... -

when some music company is willing to spend the time and money and effort to give more exposure to the singer and do all sorts of advertising and xuan chuan to make him/her popular.........
