  Can a computer dvd drive play a movie dvd?

  most definitely.. but look out for the different region codes.. although i think windoze media player will play them all

  i think what he means is that a dvd player has a region code, depending on where it's produced.
  like if it's produced in sg,it has code3, and can only play dvds meant for sg.
  
  but some dvd players are 'multi-code' can play dvds from any region.
