Anyone knows what causes the sudden increase in the no. of students who compose Xin Yao in the 1980s? I'm just curious... And what was the music situation at that time like? Were the pple who compose xin yao like rivals or were they living in harmony?

dunno much abt how it evolved. but i do noe at tt time, the songs of ppl like pan ying, yan li ming, chen jia ming, liang wen fu, etc were very popular. i guessed they sort of like sparked of the widespread interest in xin yao. perhaps at tt time, ppl began to compose songs tt were of a more local flavour after listening to all the hong kong and taiwanese ones (although these were not tt hot then, they prob led these budding composers and songwriters to start writing), and these locally flavoured songs garnered alot of interest which led to the xinyao craze.
i dunno abt their business models but i haf this idealistic feeling that they were more "pure" den, and tt their intention was more to write singaporean songs for singaporeans. of cos, there mus be an economic angle to all such ventures else nobody would help them cut the records, and i guess in this sense, if they were frm different record companies, they could be considered rivals. -

Those singers..I'm still very supportive fo Hong Shao Xuan, Cai Li Lian...still buy their CDs...Dunno whether Zheng Zhan Lun is xin yao singer..but i like his , .....

i think its started with the taiwan min yao....some artist here tot since taiwan hv it, y cant we hv our own...
Eric Moo started with a group Di Xia Tie, probably get the name fm MRT siince spore was constructing n promoting tt time
some of my fav xin yao are
Xie Hou --> Eric Moo & Huang Hui Zhen
Lian Zi Qi --> Jiang Hu

tt time bery liu xing partly bcos of the drive to promote community spirit (backed by the govt of cos)
and oso....the lost heritage of the kampong days and the tian zhen huo po ke ai school life.......

Hehe..luckily it's a weekday show..I tune in to FM93.3 and CLASS 95FM most of the time..and UFM on weekends...happy happy ^^
