whyOriginally posted by gasband:sorry but i totally hate them.
Because like most chinese singers, they seem to have so MANY struggles with love that they can churn out countless songs abt it. Have the really went thru all the experiences they sang abt? Do they really feel that way? Maybe. Mostly not. For money I think.Originally posted by MooKu:why
oh. I guess that's probably because Chinese tend to be more sentimental. No lah, some songs, SOME, are truly written from experience. For example, David Tao wrote "Melody" and it was about his ex-girlfriend of 6 or so years, Melody. He also wrote Black Tangerine to express his thoughts after the 911 incident.Originally posted by gasband:Because like most chinese singers, they seem to have so MANY struggles with love that they can churn out countless songs abt it. And pardon me hor , Jay chou is better off producing rather than sing....some think its style but its a better word for mumbling aka cant sing.
Disclaimer: The above hatred towards singers of the chinese music scene is purely my own views hor. If you dun agree with me, you can always disagree.
you are right lah and you make sense. Of cos I am not going to generalise and say that all chinese songs are like that one but it is kinda sad that it is being dominated by such songs. Making money out of music is not wrong, afterall you need to survive. But you can see many people going in for the sake of money and fame. Tell me, if you are not good at speaking mandarin, would you even put singing mandarin songs as a career top choice? I dun think so, but look at the number of ABCs coming into the chinese market. Some even have to take mandarin lessons to brush up their cannot make it mandarin...gosh...Originally posted by MooKu:oh. I guess that's probably because Chinese tend to be more sentimental. I don't see anything wrong in producing music for money. In the first place, I don't believe one will produce music entirely for money. There must be some interest in the music itself. So long as the music entertains, I guess it's ok? Some of Wang Li Hong's songs are pretty entertaining. Those songs don't sing about love and like and this and that but rather about, for example, the weird things that can happen to somebody. And remember Andy Lau sang about our favorite seat in the toilet - the toiletbowl.
I can't say much about Jay Chou, cos I'm not quite familiar with his music. But he seems to take pride in his mumbling. Cos in the g-music awards he mentioned that "I will keep mumbling in my songs! thank yoU!" lol.
I used to have dislike for Mandarin Pop too, because all the songs appeared to be singing about the affairs of the heart, and they all sounded similar, same old boring style. But in recent years, new artistes have sprung up and production of new kinds of music like those that are a fusion of say, jazz and hip hop are seen.
Some time back I had a thought... erm, maybe Mandarin pop isn't lousy/boring, just another genre to add to the list?
My humble opinions are as such for now lar... but I'm so tired after a long day at school I probably don't really make sense of what I'm saying.
Hmm true.. the number of people going into the business for fame and fortune has led to a sharp decline in the quality of Mandarin Pop... But with regard to the ABCs, their grasp of the language aren't bad, are they? One thing I must admit... these bananas bring in novelties.Originally posted by gasband:you are right lah and you make sense. but as i said, I totally hate them to the core...I use to like chinese pop back then people like Jacky Cheung, Sky Wu who are really vocally powerfully and are hugely talented....now? The scene is a comical orgy of young hippies cashing into the pop sh|t.
So well dun be offended what i say huh, not directed at anyone but just my point of my view. My friends say I am skewed with this view but I believe I see better than anyone of them.
