  I would beg to differ with you on this, using "weird chord structures" is just a reflection of the player's level of muscianship. Perhaps my understanding of "weird chord structure" is off, but i guess you would mean chord voicings and chord progressions.
  
  With extended chord voicings and progessions, it just shows the musicians in depth grasp of musical theory. Nothing much to do with showing off IMO, but i guess this like "whack the dog", neverending discussion. Mozart Vs Cobain....visit Austria then go to seattle and ask for preferences....you decide.
