Gee. Nowadays when the students in my college skip lessons, the tutors and P and VP will just say:Originally posted by the Bear:uhh.. nope... even did that to the principal once..
it was a JC which treated everyone like adults... and we behaved like so too.. if the class wasn't helping, we didn't attend...
in the end, results were still pretty good
in many ways, that JC taught us self-discipline... by letting us learn responsibility for ourselves and not forcing their brand of discipline down our throats... there were no disciplinary problems at all

"We're helping you to revise. You should not think that you can study better on your own!" yadda yadda...
Now we're like having 3 weeks of revision, then 3 weeks break to prepare for the 'A's.. but it's quite useless to revise when we haven't the right information on our hands. I'd prefer if we could have the 3 week break THEN go back to school and revise..
maybe it's because nowadays alot of admissions are based on merit, like how well you fare for your exams etc. The standard of education, rather, regurgitation, is raised up to the skies... and everybody just bothers more about their scores than education on other aspects such as character-building etc...Originally posted by the Bear:i think it's gone nuts... the stupids that run MOE are to blame...
seriously.. the senior management is made up of people who are what they call Administrative Officers.. who are rotated around all the Ministries...
each are trying their damnest to "make a difference" so they force their ministry to go on a whole lot of stupid programs... just to pad their CVs and be able to tell their bosses "look. i did this and that"
in the end, the people who make up the ministry and their target "customers" (students under MOE) suffer...
notice it's all very results-driven now... actual learning and education are cast aside..
it's sad

hmm yah.. but the schools, besides teaching the students on academical study, should be an area where students learn something... character building may not be a good term.. but i cannot think of the term now arghOriginally posted by the Bear:i believe that character building should be left to the parents...
however, education should never be mistaken for that piece of paper.. it is the sacred duty of a teacher to inspire a love for learning and to just guide..
now, the results are everything..
alas...
