dun bother.. learn yrself.. it takes abt say 4 mths, u can play songs liaoz. i learn in feb, learn myself, now i can say i not bad liaoz. i not comparing with siao pro ppl la. but decent enuff. then take lesson to improve and learn technicsOriginally posted by MooKu:Was just thinking of buying a guitar... and taking up lessons.
I was told by a friend who said if I signed up with Yamaha, they'd get the guitar for their students. But will it be better if I buy that myself?
And how does the kind of wood used to make the guitar affect the sound produced?
This costs US$4000++..
i'm learning the organ myself.. it's quite tiring to be without a guide, so I think it might be a better idea for me to start well from the basics with a teacher i think it's high time i get serious about music.. the rudiments are very important to meOriginally posted by dumbdumb!:dun bother.. learn yrself.. it takes abt say 4 mths, u can play songs liaoz. i learn in feb, learn myself, now i can say i not bad liaoz. i not comparing with siao pro ppl la. but decent enuff. then take lesson to improve and learn technics
thats a freaking taylor. no wonder so ex. diff quality guitar produce diff cleaness or warmness sound. depends on wat wood and if the guitar body is damaged.
but personally. its not just the guitar, the skills oso impt 50% guitar quality, 50% player skills. to affect overall performance. u give a monkey a taylor oso wun sound nice.
Trust Takamine.Originally posted by MooKu:Hey by the way, what brands are affordable, yet good? It doesn't have to be VERY good since it's going to be my first guitar. but it has to be GOOD. or at least, reliable.
kopi? kopiosatu?Originally posted by M©+square:If you have the money get a Baby Taylor.
And then borrow from friends chordbook. Of learn from Kopi. He's good. (advert)
Then you'll be pro without paying much.

well u can get a cheap guitar first, once you've really gotten the hang of it, then u can choose a guitar that suits youOriginally posted by MooKu:kopi? kopiosatu?
hmmmmm. then does anyone know.. exactly which are the denser woods and which are the less dense ones.... that produce what sound.. ?
oh alright. makes alot of sense. thanks kopiOriginally posted by kopiosatu:well u can get a cheap guitar first, once you've really gotten the hang of it, then u can choose a guitar that suits you
one gives a warmer sound the other gives a cleaner sound. the tone is diff oso. it doesn't really matter, you try out every guitar and see what kind of sound u like, thats more impt cuz only when u like the sound then u motivated to playOriginally posted by MooKu:i'm learning the organ myself.. it's quite tiring to be without a guide, so I think it might be a better idea for me to start well from the basics with a teacher i think it's high time i get serious about music.. the rudiments are very important to me
oh... hmm so far i only know guitars can be made of walnut or rosewood... so.. to start off, how do these 2 types of wood affect the sound of the guitar?
thats called a pick up, it picks up the sound from the strings, then goes to the amplifiers.Originally posted by MooKu:oh alright. makes alot of sense. thanks kopi
oh yes what's the difference between a baby taylor and a normal taylor?
and then i see some guitars have holes where you can connect the guitar to some speakers or something.. what are those guitars called? and then what's the difference between an accoustic guitar and classical guitar?
wah.. how come left you only? one student to one teacher no good meh heehee. personal tutor mahOriginally posted by Xiao Long Nu:i learn b4 in yamaha....is each mth around 40+ $ ...each wk once...once is 1 hr...i tink u go Community centre learn aso cheaper.............bt yamaha ok lar....first lesson will learn hw to play songs liaoz...then every lesson play few songs...then when u know hw to play liao they ask u wana play wat song they teach u play lor.....tat time i learn classical guitar...the instructor will ask u get a tuner -cheap 1 around few dollars....if u realy expert..u can tune urself..heee then he will aso ask u buy guitar ...their student model lor....around 200+ ....hwever u go to their lessons every wk..they will provide u guitar..bt u need to pracitse at hm mah.....anyway tat time i buy the cheapest yamaha student model around 100+ cos i tink no need to buy till so expensive...i learn for half yr then stop le...cos class grows frm 10 ppl to me alone......then dn feel like joinin other class...too ...lidat lor..tink nex time i go community centre join cheaper...or pracise at hm...can get scores frm the net for the songs u wan....
oh ok gee that was a big help thanks! if i have anymore problems i'll post them! hahaOriginally posted by dumbdumb!:thats called a pick up, it picks up the sound from the strings, then goes to the amplifiers.
those are called acoustic guitars. for $100 plus can install one into your folk guitar, which are guitars with metal strings.
the difference is one is use nylon strings i tink, the other is metal. again, its preference, different tones, and sounds, see which one u like better. for me? i hv 2 guitars, one folk and another classical. my sis uses the classical
well the difference is the string... but like i said, once you have gotten the hang of it and decided what kind of music you want to play, then you buy the guitar to suit that style.Originally posted by MooKu:oh alright. makes alot of sense. thanks kopi
