darling, if you wanna clean it, do it quick with warm water.... and do dry it well.Originally posted by MooKu:Remember the stray kitten I picked up? It's still at home with me... and I really want to do something to clean it now.
Should I bring it to the vet to check for diseases or should I bring it to a pet-grooming centre? Or can I simply bathe the cat myself?
Does anyone know how to differentiate between a male and female cat?![]()

pls bring it to a vet. a kitten would need to have some immunity injections and take deworming pills.
as to differentiating the gender, depending on the age, the differences could be quite subtle. the vet would be able to tell you for sure.
have fun with your kitty...it'll bring you lotsa joy & love...![]()
that's why i said you gotta do it quick, with warm water so that it won't get startled also.Originally posted by MooKu:Ooooooooooooooo.
Okay!
I think I'll bathe the kitten first. But I'm afraid it'll jump here and there and scratch me all over![]()

erm, wouldn't advise it. unless it's the really neutral type that states can be used for both cats & dogs (at least shows pictures of both).Originally posted by MooKu:can I use my doggy's shower cream on it?
oh ok. so for now i just clean it with warm water...?Originally posted by narz:erm, wouldn't advise it. unless it's the really neutral type that states can be used for both cats & dogs (at least shows pictures of both).
yeah... juz gentle rinses over the kitten's body will do.Originally posted by MooKu:oh ok. so for now i just clean it with warm water...?
but I hardly see my kitten licking itself. and its fur is pretty messy and not-nice-looking..Originally posted by narz:yeah... juz gentle rinses over the kitten's body will do.
don't rinse over tis head. use a small wet towel to wipe the its eyes (corners only) and ears clean.
don't worry abt a dirty kitten. cats do a great job of keeping themselves clean with their licking.![]()
as it is an orphan (i presume), it has no mother cat to learn from....but not to worry, it will learn to do it (clean itself) later as its animal instincts will guide it to all those practises (self grooming, using the litter pan).Originally posted by MooKu:but I hardly see my kitten licking itself. and its fur is pretty messy and not-nice-looking..![]()
see from the butt lor...male kittens has got abit of balls.....whereas female dun...as male kits grow...the balls become bigger like urs...Originally posted by MooKu:Remember the stray kitten I picked up? It's still at home with me... and I really want to do something to clean it now.

mmmm yes it is an orphanOriginally posted by narz:as it is an orphan (i presume), it has no mother cat to learn from....but not to worry, it will learn to do it (clean itself) later as its animal instincts will guide it to all those practises (self grooming, using the litter pan).
in the meantime, give it lots of attention with regular gentle strokes, that would assure your kitten that it is being loved and also give it some hints to imitate the action of self grooming...
also, would advise you to surf the web or pick up some books on keeping a kitten, it'll help a lot.![]()
sterilize it...keep it...love it.........DO NOT de-claw a cat...Originally posted by MooKu:mmmm yes it is an orphan
i'm not sure if my mom will allow me to keep the kitten when it grows bigger... I think she's probably afraid it'll scratch the furniture and that i'll spend too much time taking care of it.
de-clawing cats are considered cruel right? but if my mom doesn't allow me to keep it, will it be alright if I let it run free [after sterilization]? or should i call up the SPCA...![]()
hi hi,....Originally posted by narz:hehe, ahger, good that you're here too...![]()

no prob abt cats & dogs staying together.... they'll get used to each other after some time..Originally posted by MooKu:oh no. then those stray cats how?
i have a dog [female] too but it's very mild-tempered... almost no-temper..will it be safe to let the kitten interact with it?
and then.. how often should i bathe the kitten?
nooooo i won't declaw the cat.. it must feel terrible not being able to scratch itself or climb around.Originally posted by narz:get a scratching pole and/or mat for it to start getting used to scratching those INSTEAD of the furniture.
get ready to be on constant monitoring of the kitten as it grows up as it can get really mischievious. use "squirt bottles" as disciplinary tools to deter it from doing something that you do not want it to, like scratching furniture or jumping on the kitchen table top. remember, BEFORE it does something wrong, distract it with a loud noise or clap. no point scolding or punishing your pet AFTER it has done something wrong.
with proper discipline and care (praise it when it is on good behaviour etc), cats can maintain themselves very well (less hassle than dogs actually) and are ideal as house pets.
hope you do not end up declawing or sending it to SPCA.
Good Luck!![]()
