NokiaÂ’s new E-series phones set to launch in Singapore in May look to bring the power of mobility to office bound workers. The Nokia E60, Nokia E61 and Nokia E70 support todayÂ’s most popular and newly announced corporate mobile email solutions like BlackBerry Connect, GoodLink from Good Technology, Inc., IntelliSync Wireless Email, Seven Mobile Mail, Seven Always-On Mail and Visto Mobile.
As the new phones are targeted at business users, Nokia's Enterprise Solutions General Manager Eric Tan the E60 and E70 phones will be sold through local systems integrators rather than traditional channels while the E61 will be available from retail stores. No plans are in place to sell the E60 and E70 through traditional retailers to the mass market.
The new Nokia E-series devices are built on the latest edition of the Series 60 Platform, the worldÂ’s leading smartphone software platform. Series 60 3rd Edition together with Symbian OS v. 9.1 provide an identical application environment for the Nokia E60, Nokia E61 and Nokia E70. They include a variety of GSM frequencies and 3G (WCDMA) cellular network support for seamless roaming across different countries, as well as a range of local connectivity options such as WLAN, Bluetooth and Infrared and are USB 2.0 compatible. Additional memory for the E61 and Nokia E70 phones comes in the form of the miniSD card slots while the E60 features an MMC memory expansion capability.
The addition of email capabilities and support for Java script is part of the convergence of data and mobile applications to meet the demands of the modern office worker. To ensure that the phones are compatible with whatever applications the modern and mobile worker might use and need, Nokia has worked with technology partners like Symantec, Check Point, Lotus Notes, SAP and many more to ensure compatibility.
More and more office workers are becoming receptive to the power that such mobile devices bring Tan said, quoting a 2004 IDC report that said that 60% of respondents in South East Asia were happy with the changes that mobility brought to their work and personal lives.
Recommended retail prices for the E-series phones are SGD$738 for the E60, SGD$738 for the E61 and SGD$748 for E70, all inclusive of GST.
