hi...
the standard recommended tyre pressures are always in terms of cold tyre pressure...(ie, the pressure of the tyres when the tyres are cold) so if your tyre says 42 max psi /load
it means max of 42psi at cold tyre pressure
after riding around, to the nearest gas station, or even pushed to the gas station, the air in your tyre heats up by 1-2psi...it could be more if you ride a longer distance or ride harder/faster....
and this also depends on the tyre compound...road/standard compounds heat up slightly less than race/soft compound tyres, even if they are ridden slowly
so the best solution, if you could afford to, is to get to the gas station early so that you have about 15-20mins (at least) to allow your tyres to cool off (some may take longer, race tyres can take up to 45mins to cool off
) and then pump the pressure that you wish...but if you don't have the time, you could always set the gauge about 1-2psi higher than what you would pump into your tyres....and recheck your tyre pressure the next day/morning with your tyre pressure gauge and release any excess (if you have)
hope i could help.
