TP has said that preferably don't use the new license as identity card. It's in one of the recent ST . He said that it's purpose is for driving license.. not IC. Got some other reasons also...

eh.. by law you are required to bring your ic wherever u go once you get it.. i was scolded by the police for not doing so.. from then i bring liao..

than when u in need of ur ic to do some important stuff hw? if u dun bring it out. like some ppl like to use their license as ic. some like to use their poly student pass as their ic. than when u get caught by police or watever need to prove ur identity hw? dun u noe why last time u had something call birth cert? why "they" came out with an idea of making a IC. smaller version of a birth cert. if not singaporean all had to carry their big birth cert ard if they need to show their identity. wah reali cant imagine. if so troublesome to carry ic than why not dun go out the best.Originally posted by ah tiang:ic lost = 1st time $100, 2nd time $300

stay at home dun even go to sch than u wouldnt in need of ur ic or to show anyone ur identity.

For I/C, it's for emergency juz in case something happens to you they will know who you are, where you stay, who to contact and your blood group if you need blood transfusion.
For photo licence, it's a new system so that without bringing your I/C they still can see the photo on it. Unlike last time you need to show your licence, I/C and insurance. It's juz an easier way out.
But if you wanna play safe juz bring both out lor, like me.

if u take the small information booklet the police give to u, it states clearly that it is not against the law
but u r strongly advised to do so as in case emergency they know who u r
if u feel a police officer has scolded u for nothing, y not just take down his name feedback to SPF
some young police officers nowadays like to act sud alot -
