Battery Powered Scooters are illegal on ALL Public Areas

It seems that those Battery Operated Scooters that zip around our HDB areas, and found along pavements are all ILLEGAL.
These Made in China "scoot arounds" travel at 25kmh, and are actually not allowed to be operated on any PUBLIC AREA, except in your own Private Back Yard.

Don't get conned into buying it, and not knowing where to ride it.
The dealers knew about this regulation, and did not seem to have highlighted the matter to most buyers.
Some have been known to have paid over $600 for a model, that others purchased for only $300+.
It is a situation of sell first, and the problem is yours to ponder later. -

This is stupid.
Where you can't ride:
• On public roads
• On pavements next to public roads
• In public parks
• In HDB estates
Where you can ride:
• In your backyard
• Grounds of private estate, if allowed
So what's the point?

It's a private transport, how come they are banned in Most of the places.

why shld they even authorise the approval of licenses for this thing?
if it were allowed on public roads, its slow speeds would cause a nuisance, it's too small and dangerous, trucks driving past normal motorcycles can already cause some of them to sway left and right, what do you think will happen to things like this?
+ if it were to be allowed on roads, as with all motorcycle laws, use of helmets would be necessary. you think anyone's going to bother wanting to wear a helmet? they'd probably scream that the thing doesn't travel fast enuff for helmets to be a necessity.
allowing it to use pavements would just endanger pedestrians.
this is just another case of ppl blaming the govt for thinking of their welfare, or more specifically, the welfare of ppl NOT riding those things. -
hahaha try scooting ard rooftop, your own home, on the grass of public... the dirt trail of some reclaim land.... then maybe oso... the sandy beach in some park lor.... ... singapore goverment LOL what can we say about them... always this cannot do... that cannot do... no wonder so many young singaporean or those U grad feels like living abroad... so call "Democratic Country" eh.... Hahaha dun be surprise if one day even walkin on the pavements needs to pay too or even have to pay for our letter box usage lol

actually banning it on pavement makes the pavement much safer for pedestrains. If such scooter can go up to more than 25km/h, what you think will cause when they bang into people? It was on the newspaper saying that a bicycle has caused a woman's hand to dislocate as the bicycle crash into her hand. Imagine a bicycle can caused this. I think bicycle should not be riden on the pavements. Neither should they be on the road, sometimes these bicycles actually caused a nuisance to motorbikes. I have personal experience. and sometimes seeing those mothers riding with one kid in front and one kid behind makes me really wonder, how can the mother make sure that no accident will happen which will endanger her childen.
Bicycles and motorized scooters should be riden in the park for leisure and should not be use as substitution for public transport. If the public transport is cheaper, people would not mind paying it to travel a short distance. But now even those feeder bus cost 70 cents. Little wonder people wuold prefer endangering their lives than pay this amount to travel a short distance.
All this actually round down to expensive public transport. Agree??? -

on a normal flat road, you can sprint up to 65km/h, but only for a while.
but maintaining 40km/h is really not hard if there's no headwind.

Sorry, but can't agree with you there. Bicycles are a legitimate form of transport. Cycling is healthy, free, emits ZERO pollution... I cycle from Tampines to Bukit Timah everyday. I obey all the rules and use hand signals to indicate my intentions at least 10 metres before I carry them out. I also wear a helmet and gloves on every ride.
I have seen many drivers and riders who are downright dangerous on the road. Does that mean that all drivers and riders should be banned and everyone should just take MRT and buses? Even then, how about the bus drivers who purposely run the ah pek motorcyclist near to the kerb just to get past them? It's not about the money. I have 2 cars and a motorbike. But I would choose to ride one of my bicycles anytime if possible.
The problem is lack of education. If your case is just ban them cos they're dangerous, then MOTORBIKES should be FIRST on the list! -

last time on tv got show b4... still must wear simi aerodynamic and anti friction suit + helmet, then the bicycle oso specially made extra light and long alot of stuff one.. -
the problem with cyclists (electric or motor or watever sai) is that many of them think they don't have to follow traffic rules because they still considered themselves as pedestrians.
it is very common to find them riding AGAINST heavy traffic, and expecting cars and bikes etc to give way to them. it is also common to find many of them out late at nite, cycling along extremely dark areas with no lights at all, and yet if you bang into them, it's your fault.
cyclists should be kept off the roads and restricted to pavements only. -
It's a long process of education lah. Highway code should be taught to everyone and enforced strictly from young.
It won't happen in within the next generation of Singaporeans.
If you go to an European country, you will see that MOST of the time, road users, regardless of their form of vehicle, have a lot of respect and courtesy for each other.
I was cycling in France up and down some hilly mountains. At some spots, there was only a single lane. During the uphills, although I kept to the left as far as possible, NOBODY tried to overtake me! I felt to bad for holding up a whole line of traffic!
When the lane finally widened, they passed me and most of the drivers gave me a thumbs-up and shouted "Go go go! You can do it!"
Try that in Singapore... -

bicycles are ok as long as they ride safely,
ridding at the side of the road does not realy cause much obstruction, cycling is a fun sport
unless u sway left and right and pose a danger to road users and urself
and u obey all traffic rules like stopping for red lite, riding with the traffic..
also they shld be make it a point to install safety euqipment like reflectors (ugly!) or backlites, a front headlite
on pavement jus normal crusing speed around 20-30 will not harm anybody take care not to scare pedestrian walkin by zoomin pass them
to me it all boils down to the individual behind the handlebar
