  actually i know nothing abt bikes...just wanna say something...u can correct me if i am wrong...
  
  but i thought the choke is u close or make the air intake lesser...i mean just like u choke someone, u press onto the windpipe ? so my guess is that when u choke an engine, u lower the air proportions in the engine...in other words there are more fuel than air....when u start the engine that way...some of the fuel will be burnt incompletely,but all the air is used up....this way the engine will start but will have incomplete combustion.but who cares, u just want the engine to start ...then when it started,remove the choke lah....then more complete combustion....

  open choke -> reduce air intake.
  does not increase petrol intake.
