prevent rust

how u guys prevent rust from appearing?? can really oil cos will be really messy... thinking of using acrylic paint so as to preserve chrome parts... wat do u think?
had been using bike cover and wd40 but not much of use... dont think i will re chrome it cos it will be x and have to leave the bike there for a few days maybe weeks...
how?? comment?

wd40 creates rust.

the proper way to use Wd40 to prevet rust... is spray, wait awhile then wipe it off...
if u spray liao just leave it there, it will onli act as rust remover and not prevent.
if pple use it the correct way, maybe it will really works -
got sell not wd 40 some spray. sorry forgot the name.. coz i put in my bike box.. check out shops, prevent rust one.. in fact i had some rust parts i sprayed and used cloth to scrub the rust can go off..

you can use autosol, it remove rust very effectively but cannot prevent. I think only acrylic paint can prevent rust coz my production workers told me this when they saw so many rust on my phantom.

been covering up my bike so other then the cheap crash bar other parts still ok.. -
which part of the bike are you refering to? autosol removes rust, but rust prevention is minimal... if it's a non-wear area (decorative, low contact, like the chrome covers on the sides), you could use clear lacquer to seal in the nice finish after you polish. it's available at most hobby or woodcraft shops in spray form. lacquer is not indestructible, can get worn off, but a good application of 5 thin coats (allowing each coat to dry in between sprays) can last you a good while if the part is not frequently touched or worn. plus if you take the time to buff and polish the surface... whooooo... nice... seen gibson guitars before??

the only way to prevent oxidation is to use non-oxidiable (yes i made up that word ) parts

I think 3M Steel Cleaner is good. It leave ure chrome parts with a very thin layer of oil or wax.... ex. though. WD40 is good for temp solution and frequent user... but not suitable for those clean one time then wait for a decade b4 cleaning up again... WD40 and marine used anti rust are quite acidic i should say.... choice is yours to make anyway..

heard from my bike mechanic that acrylic on chrome parts will make the chrome dull in no time.. dont know whether true...
thinking of using sandpaper to clean up the rust first.. dont know if appropriate. -
Go buy "Rust Converter", they convert any rust to rust-oxide permanantly; that means a chemical process takes place that is irreversible. Be sure to clean off the application quickly to avaoid having a black spot if the rust is on a chrome surface. But on a painted surface, just spray lacquer or same colour paint over spot.

as for the sandpaper, do get the finest one so that it does not scratch the parts.
