honestly. they aren't exactly that expensive, you buy a few, let them breed, and you have a some what constant supply of food
maybe rabbits would be a better choice, their meat is tender and they breed like like crazy. -

convert that one to rear the hamsters/rabbits, put those big big maze let them run here and there to excercise so the meat more tender then put around 100 of them inside, 40 male 60 female!!!
to be honest i'd like to try dog meat as well. my china frens say taste very nice.
