ya, they may not want to chop u but the problem is they dun know how to repair the bike...Originally posted by InSPirE78:i oso liked to b in the DIY team but one obstruction is reali the timing lor....not every1 can mit up for any urgent repairs or ideas... i personally oso agree that motordiam in sg is out to chop ur head...but some in malaysia not like that lor...i think its just sooner or later things lah....
Thats why I agree on D.I.Y. as much as possible. Sometimes when the mechanic has his ORD mood, he'll do some fuck up job to your bike even if he's the most trusted mechanic you have.Originally posted by milkshake:plan A get someone to infiltate those motordiam as a mechanics and learn things from them like how to do certain things for all bikes, then meanwhile be the leader of the group and teach all of them, then in the end all small big things everyone can handle, but its took time and need volunteer
plan B
what u actually encountered was from bike shop that sells bike... not from bike shops that only repair bikes....its two different treatment i should says....Originally posted by feng125:Motordiams are around for a reason. MAKE MONEY.
if they dun make money, they will close down, therefore no motordiam.
Ultimately their aim is to make a living.
I personally believe that in Singapore, there is no automobile or motorcycle shop that is 100% dedicated to the love of motorcycles. they are instead 101% dedicated to the love of money.
Take for example: rear brake not biting, not enough stopping power. it could be a simple case of caliper and piston maintenance, but the mechanic says that the whole brake system is beyond repair. No medicine can cure it, must buy new one.
Because he is the mechanic, his is the EXPERT's opinion, most of us would believe him. Some people say they have trusted mechanics, but how well do you know them? Some of these so-called "trusted" mechs will tell you "aiya this one actually not spoil lah, i do this this this for you can liao... free one lah", but that is after you have already spent maybe $100 on servicing with them. Try going in without doing any other servicing see whether he will waste his time doing things for free for you then you just leave.
It is such an irony that as an asian community we have achieved so much by being earnest in making money, yet we are seldom ever honest and passionate about helping others when there is money to be made. Skeptical as i am, i choose not to go to any shop whatsoever to fix my problems if i am able to try to fix it myself. That includes things i have never had experience in fixing like attempting to bleed my own brakes and flush my cooling systems.
Only when i'm completely helpless like engine overhaul then i have no other option. Even then i seldom ever believe what mechanics tell me about my bike that is spoilt. I simply dun trust them.
Next time try to fix things yourself, you might find as i did that its pretty fun to get your hands dirty and know your bike better. Better yet, form a group of DIY loving people to solve your problems. You'll start to see what i mean when motordiams "mei you yi ge shi hao dong xi".
i belong to 2, coz i always go to those uncle let them serviceOriginally posted by HighwayAngel:what u actually encountered was from bike shop that sells bike... not from bike shops that only repair bikes....its two different treatment i should says....
Bikeshops that focus on selling of bikes.... usually have what we call lup sup mech. that have not much experience in rebuilding or repairing of bikes.... and you might have to pay either lots of $$$ or lesser $$$ for little job done and oso might not guarantee you might get original parts which they had promise you.
<<<>>> The above options is commonly chose by more riders since they want a cheap job to be done...which for my opinion i regards this pple as " wan cheap wan green wan big big breast"
Bikeshops that only do repairs<<>> these shops i would say they are the men that have sufficient knowlegde of repairin and rebuilding of bikes.... they may quote high price for a job cos they are using their skills as a living... and we can't say they are over charging cos they are not selling bikes. and there are about four of these kinda shop which provide repairing, and moppy. The rest are like just providing repairs work. <<<>>> less riders choose the above 2nd option bike shops but usually riders who choose the above 2nd option bike shops are usually old customer of that bike shop, riders who really never tot about changing new bikes... riders who devoted to the bike they are riding and would do anything to keep their bike tip top cond. beside them.
so which one are you? Hehehe
DIY is best in saving your pocket thomie... unless you are very experience with it if not it will not be the best options hehehehe. Knowing whats went wrong with a bike its actually bery easy as ABCOriginally posted by tHoMiE:Haiz DIY yrself is still the best , if you go to normal motor tiams u get rubbish service and something else is bound to happen again. If you go to hign end super good workmanship and service motortiam you get a book bike a sore wallet and a long queue . If you go DIY mototiam ppl will learn a lesson in the long run and u understand you bike better knowing what goes wrong when and where. Somehow you feel better at the end of the day. Do get a parts catalodge and a service manual if you are really keen on understanding the bike.
By the way i just spent the last 8 hour DIYing my antique retro bike.
keep it up milkshake...Originally posted by milkshake:i belong to 2, coz i always go to those uncle let them service
i have been staying faithfully to a bike shop but i dun think i would say where it is...or whats the name.... those who knows where i do my bike will know about the shop.Originally posted by roger:for the benefit of everyone, how about listing those shops that only do repairs?
Originally posted by Duskette:why not ride your cls 2 bike and visit loois motor and look for their chief mech. U have to pay abit more but see what he does to your bike first. Then u will noe there's still some who's doing it for passion.
hehehe u free then jio me lah... i wont jio u one liao hahaha who knows i might spoil ure date witha girl or something LOL my bike shop move to bedok indust liaoOriginally posted by tHoMiE:HEehehhehehe i will not say i have a lot of experience or none at all . For me its a learning process, I might have spent more money at a bike shop and get a less worth while service and repairs done on the bike then doing it DIY. I dun mind going to the bike shop you go but I dun afford to spent that kinda of money. Anyway, i just change the clutch myself .... the friction plate cost $5 X 7 and the clutch gastket $7. Just drained the coolant , enjine oil 1st and .. .... .. just a less then hour job. Some gasket glue might help.
Anyway been trying to locate yr bike shop but heard it moved ... Now my bike is overhualing .. hope to have kopi sometimes =)
I am not asking the rest of the guys to do the same , for me its just a learning experience and trying not to be under the mercy of motorshops and money =p
wow dats quite a lot of knowledge needed to be able to change the clutch. you probably had quite a lot of DIY experience under your belt. i dun even know how to use gasket glue.Originally posted by tHoMiE:HEehehhehehe i will not say i have a lot of experience or none at all .
