take out spark plug c lorOriginally posted by Ducati996:haiz my bike just had a starting problem. had to do 'overflow drill' over and over again finally engine come to life.
is there any easy way to tell whether the prob is overflow or spark plug? sure, i can just change spark plug and see if problem persist, but leceh leh. any diff btn symptoms/effects of overflow and spark plug?
errr...ok....and see wat?Originally posted by milkshake:take out spark plug c lor
i haven check, but izzit wet means must replace or can just wipe dry?Originally posted by nismoS132:see wet or not.
no joke.
not necessarily true. for 2 strokes and 4. for 4 it's quite clear cut, the valves don't allow it.Originally posted by nismoS132:actually the way to solve over flow is to set fuel tap to off, have throttle WIDE OPEN, then kick.
when you open your throttle, you're not letting petrol in, you're letting it evaporate out.
quite possible. it may be due to the use of a spark plug of incorrect heat range (usually too cool), which causes fouling of the plugs. stick to that recommended in the manual, unless you really red-line the engine 80% of the time.Originally posted by castrol 3:could it be the number for the spark plug which u are using?? there is some different kind of spark plugs which u use are not gd to be kick started in the morning, spark plug also play a important role for starting the bike in the morning, which we will say cold start plugs, cos morning somtime it will be cold,or is yr idling too low?? can adjust the idling higher when u kick start yr bike already.
yea but as the throttle is wide open, you draw in more air to compensate for the extra petrol as well.Originally posted by l3stat:not necessarily true. for 2 strokes and 4. for 4 it's quite clear cut, the valves don't allow it.
for 2, most if not all have intake reeds which also prevent backflow of petrol in the cylinder back to the carbs. if you open throttle wide open, the slide is completely clear of the venturi, main jet fully open, the movement of the piston will just draw more and more petrol via the jets (and at wide open throttle, main jet, which is worse) into the cylinder. even as you turn the fuel tap off, in a flooded setting, there would still be petrol in your float bowl for that to happen.
i can't offer a good counter solution, but i would think cranking or kicking with the throttle CLOSED is a better solution, IF flooding is the problem.
eh but how to evaporate? into where? aiyah.. we la kopi then discuss la...Originally posted by nismoS132:yea but as the throttle is wide open, you draw in more air to compensate for the extra petrol as well.
anyway that solution of mine wasn't for a flooded carb, it's just for 1 that's slightly overflowed, like when you tipped your bike or something.
