  there's actually another way.
  look carefully at the threads of your tyres. the groves of the thread are not flat all the way. there are some bumps along the threads. when the bumps starts to be inline with the surface of your tyre, it also means it time to change them. they are the indicators.

  i see..... you mean those jagged holes rite if there are. than must go change liao rite? will it ski anot? like during wet wether?

  got triangle.. look at the tyre sidewall, where the wordings are.. at the very edge near the tyre surface that contacts the road, there're small triangles raised from the tyre sidewall, pointing towards the outerside of the rim. so, as roger said, if your tire contact surface is in-line with the triangle, time to change... but dunno how many of us actually bua the sides until the sides wear off. i think it's safer to use the marking-in-the-thread method... lol... i still have 1.5cm of wax on the sides of my tyres...
