All engines need to warm up. Regardless its running on petrol or diesel, 2 stroke or 4 stroke or whatever engine arrangement.
Warming up is to allow your engine oil or engine lubricant which is also commonly known as 2T flow smoothly into your cylinder walls. At the same time, the piston expands at a rate faster than cylinder walls, so it is essential to allow the cylinder walls to react to the need for expansion until the expansion rates of both walls and piston are stable. but warming up can result in severe piston and wall tear. Serious cases can lead to piston seizure.
Normally in Singapore, the safe region is to warm up to coolant temperature 50 deg C for those with termometer. Those without will have to rely on timing and experience. if after rain or raining or in wee hours of morning or in any conditions when engine has left untouched for long time, it will require more time to reach 50deg C.
