NEW COUPONS FOR PARKING
MOTORISTS will have to switch to a new type of parking coupon from next month, when the price of public parking rises.
The current coupons cannot be used from Sept 1, but motorists who still have some will be able to exchange them for the new ones from today.
There is no deadline for these exchanges, but motorists will have to top up the difference between the old ones and the new, more costly coupons that reflect the higher parking charges.
From next month, a driver will have to pay $1, instead of 90 cents, for every 30 minutes his car is parked in the Restricted Zone.
A lot outside the zone will cost 5 cents more than now, or 50 cents for every 30 minutes.
Motorcyclists, too, will pay more - 65 cents a day; heavy vehicles, $1 or $2 every 30 minutes, depending on whether they are parked in the Restricted Zone.
Shops will stop selling coupons with the current rates on Aug 31.
Motorists can exchange old coupons for the new ones at the Housing Board's 22 branch offices and its carpark section at its headquarters in Toa Payoh Central.
They will also be able to make the exchange at 13 temporary centres being set up by the Urban Redevelopment Authority around the island between today and Aug 15. These centres will be open until Sept 30.
Motorists can buy the new coupons from the URA Centre at Maxwell Road, petrol stations, post offices, NTUC FairPrice supermarkets and Cheers convenience stores.
