yeahhhh i agree wif u totally man... i believe manufacturers all have the same problem... high performance or long reliability... italians give a high performance package wif all the best racing bits... but sacrificing reliability... whereas japanese believe in reliability and thus have inferior oem...Originally posted by hokkie:Honesty speaking, there are several factors why the brandname of cagiva , aprilla , piaggio and their eurpoean counterparts are naturally associated as "problem" bikes.
In europe, people ride bikes for style, as a passion and hobby unlike here where bike provides a lower cost of trasportation. Hence most european bike makers design their to be stylish, fasionable and really a joy to ride. Personally i've ridden both cagiva mito 7 and aprilla extrema and can verify that their handling is superb. Nothing reallt comes close to the thrill and eastasy of soaring through the streets in these racing bikes.
Howevere the downside is that these bikes are Racing bikes, design to be trashed throughly . Racing bikes requires racing maintainces, changing of piston ring after 3000km, chaging of piston after 10000km.Noboby in singapore ,in their right mind will have such deep pockets for these, hence these bikes are throughly trashed and deem worthless after 4-5 years of usage simpy because their owners do not know the amount of maintaince that the bike is lacking.
5 years ago, nobody will say that aprilla is a lousy bike because the model is so new that there's no problem whatsoever.
Maybe 5 years down the road, SP, TZM, KIPS , will suffer the same fate and we should see a excess of suh bikes like amout of TZR that's been thrashed, repaired , and scraped.
Nothing against mito or Italian bikes. In fact i think they look big and styish. My friend owned a mito b4 and mentioned a few minor problems like the starter motor problem. Having to push start everyday until he changed the starter motor. Also had problems wih the piston cause he took out the 2T pump and was using premix. Had to use a bottle a week.... the cost of 2T per mth came up to be quite expensive. He regretted taking out the 2T pump and concluded that it would be more economical this way. He had to change his pistons a few times.Originally posted by l3stat:"problem bike"? in what sense? you ride before? you own/owned one and experienced the problems yourself?
does your bike come with front/rearbrembo brakes and pumps, full aluminium alloy frame, swing-arm, rims, marzocchi forks, sachs/boge rear shocks, 110 front/150 rear rims, steering damper?
argh.. forget the education thing lah... i do the same thing too.. just expressing my frustrations then at what the post was becoming.. but whatever it is, when we leave out the personal attacks and discuss about the issues objectively, this forum will become a better place... don't even realize how it started. sometimes no one knows the facts either right? it's hardly surprising that one's perceptions about stuff are influenced solely about what they read and experience.. like after all, who has the time and money to run dynos on all the bikes and start comparing them on powers at crank or wheel? where do we get our information from? people who have ridden their bikes, our mechanics, racers? but where did they get their facts from? stuff like that.. it's just like me, i'm totally into italian bikes.. any japanese bike just doesn't really attract me...Originally posted by KneeSlider:i think the problem with the italians is that they are too damn stylish... a japanese bike can never come close to the sleek lines and sweet bodywork...
other than that its normally the rider.. seeing that mito125 and rs125 would normally be the bike of a new 2b rider... most likely he doesnt know how to maintain his bike in the first place... and thus treat it like a bicycle... and some dont even know they have to put 2t till the piston jams...
cool postings... tech stuff for everyone to learn! i never knew much about the mito till u posted... cheers.. and btw.. i am educated and at times behave like someone who aint... well humans are such.. but all i want is to have some healthy discussions and debates over bike stuff...
one bottle of 2T per week? what 2T is he using and what quantities do the bottles come in? 500ml? or 1 litre? if he's using the litre bottles, was he mixing them in the right quantities? sounds like a lot to use man, unless he's riding up to KL everyday... imagine the normal ratio of 1:50 or even 1:33, he'd have used 33 litres of petrol... wah.. that's like er... 660km a week? i guess he had problems with his valve as well right?Originally posted by TaNkEE:Nothing against mito or Italian bikes.
