I stored away some petrol at home in an orange juice 2 litre plastic container - just in case.
Was wondering if it is safe?.. The cap is tight, secure and I store it in a cool area away from sunlight.
1) Will petrol corrode plastic? 2) Will petrol degrade/spoil after a certain amount of time?
HENG@
the plastic should be safe, but the petrol might degrade.
also, have to warn u, that i think its not legal to store such materials at home.

Dang.. Wanted to store a small amount away in case I need it (eg. friend forgot to refuel car).
in that case I'll have to pour it back liao.

FreDeRicK

FreDeRicK
Huh? What's wrong with storing a bit of petrol?
And yes, maybe I might need it for an emergency molotov cocktail if any cars/bike in my carpark enrage me..

Noted.
Guess I will be better off with a plastic hand pump from Home DIY shop and pump directly from tank to tank.

hrMm.. yes, I noticed that after around 2-3 days.. so I quickly ask my dad to pour into his scooter before the container starts to leak. Heard that such plastics will be corroded by the petrol..
I bought a hand pump from HomeFix DIY store.. S$2.. pumped JB petrol from my SuperFour (big tank) to his Skipper (small tank).

Wow, that's good! Save money on petrol for your dad. Just one thing to ask, what petrol do u pump from petrol station in JB?
FreDeRicK
Usually I'll go by the Causeway to the Shell station (turn right at the next junction after Pelangi plaza) to pump Shell V-Power.
2nd link - Only choice is Mobil F1.

point: if you wanna store petrol in a container which is not your car fuel tank, you need a proper container like a jerry can... and you will need a permit by SCDF...
else it's dangerous to both yourself and everyone around your car...
what ignites is not the petrol itself but the fumes.. and petrol is very volatile..
don't endanger people?

r u sure its a mobil?
FreDeRicK
the Bear - Yep. I've already heed the advice of several ppl. I am no longer storing petrol in my home.
skeujin - It's Esso petrol station but the petrol pump is labelled "Mobil F1". Anyway, Esso and Mobil are all under one company - ExxonMobil Corporation.
