Does not look like it they are managing a country, looks more like they are managing a business. They are always on their toes to make sure they don't lose money in the business.

simi logic operating cost is very very high in the first place.. why? cos continual of bus svs during the off peak hrs, still need to ply industrial estate during off peak hrs... arbo why pte operator all these while also end up dun want to enter...

some people later tio pwned... back in 1993, SBS just uses $200k to buy 1 single decker bus... Today that single decker bus cost at least $340k... If they dun keep profits, they'll never be able to keep up w/ all these inflation... Neither in reality, they can go into doing other things.. Ah Bear ever said something abt it before... As for MRT, if they dun keep profits and keep those as cash, 15 - 20 yrs later, ask who for money to replace the aging mechanical items??? That's why all along the profits intention is to keep the money for future needs... not to be like SMRT, 80% all give out as divd etc...

Public govt Transport company did say before they need to increase fares to be accountable to the shareholders. It goes back to the country is managed like a business. If someone doesn't like what I just said about accountable to shareholders I heck care , that is the truth from them.

Ask Charlize to sponser $300m to SMRT lor... when they need to replace aging items when the item's lifespan comes... Accountable to shareholders?? First thing, is how to keep it going... pls you looking at it with view point as public service as a business , profit making for govt not a need for govt to provide public service to the people. Period. Why other country govt can keep providing transport yet never increase price so often compare to our govt????????????

Then... Let's take it, as though it's nationalised... some of your dunno how to open up.. end of the day, financing option is very limited... Business or not, ask you go run.. since you like to talk a lot without giving what u think... obviously a lot of things you've no idea... ppl tell you this, you just believe... There's no offence, but it's an offence to start playing politics and get yourself burnt.., Now.. you nationalise it... 1st thing, can they even take in ads as supplement revenue? Is that adding profit or supplementing income? If it's latter, it's public service for goddamned sake! So strict terms, only from fare collection... but in reality, no one makes any decent surplus from bus ops... Then, as a nationalised entity.... They can't keep surplus from the budget allocated... The fleet replacement or train refurbishment has to be from allocated govt budget from a particular budget year... Yes, 1x big chunk of money accumulated for years... so then, prior to that, since you alrdy say cannot make profits, what right the finance ministry keep so much surplus for raining day? The way you go about, is anything would never suit you... But when it comes to need money, dun one fine day end up either way you say cannot this, cannot that... -

Why is it 1x at 1 go... over budget allocation... very simple... The relevant dept has to prepare everything, call for tender at the beginning... That's when the project and budget allocation begins.. dun tell me you wait till the folllowing year to begin budget allocation for that 'portion' payable just because it falls on that year...

The guy who made the public remark of increasing the bus fare to pay for the pay increase should REPENT.
If this is the way out, all the singaporeans should refuse to work one day so that they can get their pay increase to match the hyperinflation.
Not forgetting that this guy is receiving tax payer money for his salary and bonus, who is he representing ?
If this is talent that we are paying millions for, please kindly ask him to move on as this lousy solution can be given by a five year kid.
The private listed company should be reviewing its expenditure and pay scheme, it is deemed that the driver pay is reasonable.
They should stand firm or else they will be enjoying more of these nonsense all the time. If the drivers strike can get pay rise, so should the technicians and engineers do the same to get their pay rise.
It is disappointing that the leader in key position are losing the plot and unable to perform the right decision with courage.

Tuck Yew... Maybe Saw Paik Hwa ran away with the money? Tis is smrt problem, why mus we pay for them? How many people take their buses and mrt daily? What is tuck yew going to do to punish SMRT? I hope he is voted off in 2016. So imcompetent. That fool is being paid so much, and he can only come up with fare hikes to solve the problem?

As for this strike, it have incurred an butterfly effect as there is another group of construction work refusing to work and reported on the 154th times.
The guy at MOM expect the worker to feedback their complaint to this department.
But, this workers are low educated and not well versed in English.
Refusing to work is the fastest way of getting their boss to pay them as most of them have done it in their motherland.
I am not supporting the strike but the workers will adopt the fastest way to get their pay.

and also, investaigation results are not out yet, we'd see who is lying, who is not working, or really MOM have tp loo at how they approach such conrersna dn complains.
