I honestly think 60km/h for buses on the expressway is ridiculous, the limit should be at least 70km/h... Perhaps gov't can relook this regulation.
Taking 27 or 858 can really be painful sometimes, seeing the bus cruise at such a leisurely pace. It makes the journey unbearably long.
We have always been trying to make our transportation system more efficient, but nothing has ever been done about raising the speeds on the expressway!
However, with more Voith 4-speed buses being introduced I am not quite sure if increasing the limit would have any effect - the Citaro engine seems to be at really high RPM at around 60km/h, and I am not sure how much faster it can go!
PS: just my 2c, criticism welcome :)
Well I often seeing 168 buses speed past the pathetic 27 bus I'm always in :\
When 27 entering ECP from PIE, there is a 858 MAN blocking the way and isn't driving that fast. But then the driver didn't even want to overtake, but instead tailgate it, when the ENB [ Electronic Notice Board, or what you call it ] on ECP says:
DRIVE CONSIDERATELY
DON'T TAILGATE

Totally agree with this...60km/h is just ridiculous..
How to encourage people to take buses if our buses are very slow?

Totally love this fleet (except for MB O405), much better than current fleet..
Remembered SBS9276M is the only VO3X B1 on 88, with red/orange colour ad? Gear change very fast...
Those DM3500s have loud radiators at that time..
SBS9642P and SBS3777Z used to have gear slip..
Say yes to 70km/h speed limit!
Anyone know if it is true that 502 got a crossover shift to service 30 doing downroute during AM peak?
502 fleet reduction?

502 fleet reduction?
3 buses do sv 30 downroute from taman jurong to boon lay before going to 502. no reduction on 502's side as some AM shifts start late without the xover.
Anyone can share photos of the Marine Parade Bus terminal when it was operational?
As i don't live in the East, i had never been there before and never had the chance as it closed down.
What is the meaning of "kickdown" that used in some bus rides or whatever?
Originally posted by Bus Stopping:Personally, I feel its too ok to drive on expressway at 70km/h, but not on main roads. This however is not that easy to enforce.
Also, not all expressway services will be able to make use of the speed (especially sbst ones) due to their scheduling constraints. One such example is the relaxed timetable on svc 97 during weekends, forcing the BCs to drive at around 40km/h on the AYE.
This is clearly a timetable problem and SBST should fix this, as it is extremely inefficient and wastes commuters' time.

Yes, yes, I agree!

Literally, kicking the accelerator pedal down, aka flooring the accelerator iirc. The engine revs up to high rpms and the gearbox holds a gear longer. A good example is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ2mKjVITwQ - note how the bus is screaming away

ok.. what abt fleet downgrade? two WDD slots to two WSD? timetable change again on 15th oct..
I would like to ask coz on Wed i took 6006X on 52 and i was like staring at the driver cabin, coinbox, the aircon and couldnt find a perm stix like i saw on a KUB. So where would they stick them on a Citaro?

SLBP uses marker not stix. for 6006 the marking should be behind the coinbox. its quite blur so its not so obvious

Ouh i cannot see. I took 6013Y on 53. I was standing beside the cabin, I cant find any stix so i have to check sgwiki to see if perm or not

There's only 6013A, no 6013Y. Do you mean 6014Y?
oh yeah 6014Y. my mind a bit fuzzy coz i dun take citaro often sorry
Well if u ask me I say 65kmh is just enough. If the bus is 100% pack at least the bus still travel around 60,70kmh on our roads for heavy vehicles is subjective and not all drivers is trained or skill. Also there will always be loophole.Last time our lta raised van and pick up speed to 70 and what happen? They love to travel on centre lane although its not jam and sometimes would travel on fast lane with absurb speed of 90kmh!

Yep, what is the point of such high speeds for buses and commercial vehicles?
High probability of heavy casualties accidents instead.
Yes Vicamour and that's was like 6 years ago but now vehicle population getting more n more its unpractical to speed. In the end what's d point.
At the end if the day no matter how turbo charged the van,Lorry and buses have their handling and braking system is different from cars and motorbikes...

But look at those buses in JB. They drive more than 70km/h. At BKE/AYE already you can see those Causeway Link buses speed.
Btw, OC500LE's speed limiter looks faster than 60km/h. Or is it me? Always took it on 171 and 858...
