Bus halted and passengers forced to alight because of quarrel between commuters
A quarrel that broke out on this bus saw a female commuter call the police to complain about a pair of teens she believes had insulted her. The incident caused the driver to halt the vehicle, forcing passengers to disembark and wait for the next bus.
STOMPer Darren, a commuter on board the bus at the time, related the incident:
"A small dispute onboard this packed bus 74 caused all the passengers to alight yesterday (Jan 6) at 7pm. The bus was eventually halted on Bukit Timah road for ten minutes.
"The quarrel was between a woman (using her phone in the picture), two teens and the foreign bus captain.
"The bus was packed, so the driver asked the commuters to move to the back of the bus. The woman could not understand what the driver was saying, so asked the two teens to help her translate.
"The teens spoke Mandarin amongst themselves and laughed, causing her to believe they had insulted her, so she shouted at them to 'shut up', and ended up calling the police on them.
"I'm not entirely sure what the conversation was about, but it seemed like a language miscommunication as the bus captain could not understand English, so the teen tried to translate and somehow ended up causing a dispute which eventually involved the police.
"This caused the bus to pull over at a bus stop and everyone had to alight to catch another bus.
"This behaviour is just plain selfish, to fight over such a small matter. Everyone on the bus was simply pissed off because they were tired, wanted to go home, and they were standing shoulder-to-shoulder in the bus.
"Eventually I just took the next bus and left."
