Its no coincidence that SMRT has a lot a lot of problems.
Bus problem.
Train problem.
Back-up problem.
And perhaps even worse, PR also problem.
The corporate structure needs a major shake-up to change all of that, but the govt has remained silent of this.
SBST has problems too. But SBST has the advantage of economies of scale in the bus sector, and its NEL has been fairly reliable and its PR is certainly much better than SMRT's.
And seriously, the bendies should just go. They take up space. Plenty of them. If you look at SBST's purchases, they made much more sense than TIBS (even after taking into account the hodge-podge fleet caused by slow expansion). SBST rejected the bendies for very good reasons (reasons people have raised time and again here). TIBS decided to be different and SMRT is paying some of the price.
SMRT could have moved aggressively to end the nonsense.
They didn't.
Worse. They went the opposite direction and concentated on retail and advertising while the core businesses languished.
In many ways also, it is also the system that is at fault. The govt has to keep mum about SMRT's CEO because it needs to build confidence in investors about its promise of "free business environment". Yet ironically, Singapore is not a free market with little govt intervention. Far from it in fact. While this model has its advantages, the bad stuff can be seen in crises like these and you can see that the govt has its hands tied if it wants to carry on this model which it clearly intends to.
The problem was that reject from Potong Pasir in the 1984 GE decided to have more than 1 rail operator when such operations were better a natural monopoly due to its specialised nature. Tibs was in good hands back in the 1990s and it should have stayed that way. Instead, they became part of SMRT Corp and had to endure mismanagement.

CCL confirm worse than NEL. The NSEW lines are still on par with NEL given that they are man operated and so is easier control. But the recent breakdowns shows how poorly runned SMRT is even for their main business...
i don't think the breakdowns on man-operated SMRT happen THAT frequent...

yes it is...
ha hah HAH HAHAHAHAHA
There's no limit to the delusion in this world.
look...
Whether is it manned or driverless system, it's all to do w/ the mgmt...
It's always the small details tat kills you..
i.e. for train... dwell time, freq, crowd control (I think Boon Lay is one of the worst managed, criss crossing of movement flow).
For buses.
i.e. do the buses chiong dangerously, smooth driving (less tendency for heavy braking), type of buses purchased (I must say MAN is terrible, the rear 'standee' area can only take max 2 ppl), how stable is the dispatch.
The last option, SBS still has number of svs will poor stability, same to some svs buses travelling very slowly..

965 BCs is good in chionging at the Sengkang TPE exit. I can't see why 969 cannot do the same.

once you get your driving license, you would realise what it means onto reducing your need to brake...
What if the bus need to brake how?
kids here still dun get it of standing pax falling down due to heavy braking be it intentional or because of emergency
Our WEGs were supposedly to some cx in the Middle East NT HK...
KMB/CTB/NWFB management noe which buses/chassis/engines are good
Local tpt operators DON'T wic explains a lack of Dennis/Enviro products in red dot

i know...
i may not have a driving license, but i, as an adult, know that driving still needs its limits.
BTW, i only see 965 BCs speeding when there are no standees on the bus.

AMDEP (SMRT) to take in the new MAN buses and deploy them on services like 854 and 980. All the UMW lances shall be taken out from service.
Feeder 229 will get permanent two SBS Mercedes-Benz O530 Citaros (SBS6??5? or SBS6????) with the new registration plates for posting to BNDEP or From HGDEP or BBDEP to BNDEP to replace two Volvo B10M MK3 DMs and get New WAB service for the future. Not always SBS Scania K230UB. If not get New WAB service for the future for Feeder 229, deploy 4 SBS Volvo MK4 B10M DMs to replace 2 Volvo B10M MK3 DM and 2 Scania K230UB Batch 2s.
Trunk 26, 90 will get New WAB services for the futures.

HGDEP had indeed bucked up with the MK3 replacements compare to the other 2 depots, initially it was a slow start. Now left with only about 29 MK3s in revenue service.
I believe BNDEP would take in more Citaros later this year, they still got about 40+ MK3s to clear off. Unless AMDEP take in more Citaros again and transfer K230UBs/MK4s over to BNDEP.
