Double deckers is a trouble for SBST...overcrowding so i rather SMRT still use bendies than using DDs but somehow DDs and bendies have its own good points and bad points so you can't say smrt didn't make full use of bendies they are just reserves. But please, don't be so prejuiced to bendies, double deckers also have it own bad point..you think,if SMRT bought DDs deployed on 190 and other high demands services, will it solve the problem?no definitely not.Bendies delays?think properly the reason why it delays time...becuase WE singaporeans taking our own sweet time to board on the bus.thats why i cause delays.
SBST don't have to contribute all services over there but introduce a few more services over there. Please don't confuse.
Overcrowding, are you sure??? If so, it goes the same for bendies as well since they carry only around 10 more passengers than a normal double decker. Overcrowding happens when the frequency of buses isn't so good for the service and/or no supplementary services to support or divert the demand. At least for sure, double deckers don't take up extra space in small bus stops and don't cause delays for sure.
If SMRT use double deckers for 190, think of how many buses behind can stop in the bus bay instead of 2 bendy buses hogging the bus bay and bus stops??? Sorry but I had seen and experience many times that these bendy buses causing delay to other buses behind and jams up traffic junctions and busy roads. Think of how many more higher capacity buses that SMRT can buy if they choose double deckers over bendies, based on the space that their bus depots have. Many services like 980, 960, 190, 851 can easily have their overcrowding problems solved with more higher capacity buses they own. So SMRT should seriously consider converting to double deckers to provide better bus services.
As for your last point, even if it is not the fault of the Singaporeans, then how about those faulty EZ link card readers or tourists asking for directions???

my sarcastic reply was utmost sarcastic because i just came home after taking the last 72 bus home & reading such a reply from Captain Obvious makes it worse. I make no apologies to Edd1 for his comments.
last night was so slow that if the bus were to hit a tree, both bus & tree will suffer NO damage.
if service 100 could revise their last bus timings along the route, i don't see why 72 can't.
This person claims SBST DDs are trouble...
So my response hence forth would be....
whatever.
I mean, after all, SBST serves my area and I'm glad for that. I won't swop my 88 DDs for anything in the world.
72 is the worst crawler I've seen. The amount of time I wasted when I took this service is disgusting. Coupled with the huge night-time crowd + lousy frequency makes it the nightmare service.
I should also add that just about any bus transferred to 72 becomes junk in a short while. Its a strange phenomenon seriously.

People tend to also forget that TIBS accounts for some if not most of SMRT's woes today. Just look at how the buses were purchased. It makes replacement a nightmare.

I COMPLETELY AGREE that 72's timetable needs to be revised.
It is one of the slowest services I have ever taken. The drivers never/rarely exceed 50km/h even when the road is clear. Best part is that driving at such a slow speed they still end up early (red light on the DDU).
109's timetable might also need to be revised - it almost always ends up early at Serangoon Int and the ride there is torturously slow sometimes. Double-deckers could come in handy during peak hours when the load is so high riding on the bus can become dangerous.
I'd also like to see a KUB on 103 :)
Dun believe the DDU la..
Seriously I think max 58 mins is actually enough for 72...

you give 70 mins also the 72 bus drivers "will make it enough" with their driving.

I think 109's case is due to fleet add.
When it first started its frequency was horrible and the buses go quite fast.
Same story with 161, now the frequency is good (very good) and the buses have slowed.

HAHA nice one might as well give 72 minutes! Same as the route number.
My plea is for 74 to kick its SDs out....it should have a zero SD fleet seriously.

If they make the buses run faster, they can effectively remove the number of buses on the route right? Might be more complicated than this haha.
The frequency can sometime fluctuate a lot - at the bus stop near my house it can range from 5 minutes to 20 minutes... but I have never seen 2 109s coming at the same time!

72 is just........ sigh. loss for words.
today's time-wasting efforts include :
1. right turn at cross-junction - no pedestrians, no oncoming traffic. still wait inside pocket for right turn arrow.
2. left turn hg ave 4 > hg central - check for pedestrians crossing... check..... check....... check...... can turn not?
3. traffic light GREEN... let's slow down.... let's slow down more.... let's slow down further............................ AMBER. STOP. RED.

Nono. Please don't give me back the 109 from those days.
The frequency then was 20 min despite the chionging.
As for 72, things got even worse after it was amended to make the loop to Hougang Int.
Add 10 min to journey!
Even 186 can be crawling..
but it's still not so jialat..
if they want to promote public transport, perpetual crawling warrants a schedule revision.
people shy away from public transport because
1. too packed
2. wait too long
3. perpetual crawling
people want to move. that's the priority.
but 186's problem I can understand... why leh..
The Farrer Rd/ Bt Timah Rd junction traffic signal timing LTA dun make to make it properly.. sometimes need 1x, sometimes need 2x (red light beri fast)...
Here in Singapore, most of the scheduling problem mostly caused by LTA's traffic light mgmt system
SMRTB can use DDs if AMDEP is shifted or refurbish and the empty land opp the entrance can store for DDs.Wldep I ain't too sure whether the 1st storey ceiling is at least 4.5m high. They can retired or sold their current bendies to 3rd world countries for at least 120 3 axles DDs.Volvo B9TLs with 340hp is just nice
How about this,
Free public wifi onboard all public buses and trains...
No.
For what?
To risk a tumour in my brain 15 years later?

Yes. I hope SMRT will buy Mercedes-Benz Citaro G in the future.
I hope SBS Transit to buy Scania K310UBs, Scania K310UDs and Volvo B5Ls.
No K310UBs with Gemilang body work!

I rather they get Alexander Dennis Enviro 500 and Enviro 300.
