Dear all,
Have you ever wondered why the bus is always so cramped and commuters are squeezed like sardine in the front, but surprisingly, there are still empty space at the back. This might be a scene from our daily transportation routine, but why passenger simply refuse to move to the back? Is it Design of the bus OR something else?
1) lazy
2) cant be bothered
3) selfish
4) heck care
5) All of the above
behind got gh0st
There is a practical reason lah.
If everybody packed into the bus leaving little space for commuters to alight at their stops, then there is a lot of shoving and pushing and excuse me's especially those sitting / standing right at the back of the bus.
Yes, bus gets delayed sometimes.

I've seen DDs packed to the brim until people need to stand at the stairs.
And many people can't go up the DD because the BC will not open the door for them.
But sometimes you will get agitated if you are the one trying to get on to the bus and worst case if you are rushing for time.

population explosion lor. so many people all squeezed into this tiny island. imagine 20 people living in a 3 room flat, is it squeezy or not

That does not affect the quality of life.
Really.
78, 240 - one of those common people stand near exit but not alighting & BC has to get up at every bus to ask pax to move in

how do u define quality of life first?
its a challenge housing 20 people in a 3 room flat. simple, just buy 10 double decker beds

maybe SBS should learn from SMRT, get a SBS staff to direct pax traffic at bus stops

You asking me?
Not I say one hor.
there was once i was positioned somewhere near the exit of a feeder service
the bus bery crowded..... butt-cheek-to-butt-cheek.
2 more stops then i supposed to alight
ppl keep pushing so i had to move in
so lan lan loh, push my way thru
the moment i reached the back, i turn around and start pushing my way back to the exit to alight
so fun right

Agree. When bus door are located at the back of the bus, instead of in the middle of the bus body, this problem will disappear. Everyone will want to move to the back.
But the buses are rear engine
Not those days engine mounted at the front

Honestly, i dont really know if putting a door at the back everyone will move in. Last night I was on 855, the sl scolded a pax for standing in and blocking the walkway (and listening to her mp3) without any due care for passengers trying to get off. There was ample seats, and more than enough space in the standing area.
Then, i overheard the couple behind saying if they were being scolded, they would scold the sl back and along the lines of "i pay you to drive, i already paid my bus fares so i can stand where i want to stand, u just ****ing drive and keep your mouth shut, thats your job"
So, with this kind of attitude and mentality, would putting a 3rd door really help?
The root of many problems is - too many people.
If everybody could find seats on the bus, then there would be no problem.
1) easy to get down if stand at rear door
Definitely sometimes we prefer to stand near the exits cause we are alighting soon. But well, ....
1- Selfish human beings... especially student, foreign talents (who don't understand when we ask them to move).. ['Especially' does not mean everyone of you]
2- Bus interior, design seems not 'inviting' pax to move to the rear.
3- Our new buses are getting more nicer, quiter, comfortable but smaller...
Nobody can solve this issue, it's up to individuals. Unless they can deploy more buses or can design buses with front-middle-rear doors (not really practical though but who knows what might happen in the future)
Live with it.
Originally posted by nfshp253:It helps as the primary reason is that people don’t want to be inconvenienced when wanting to get off. The attitude problem isn’t the main reason I hope. The engines don’t really matter as many of the low floor single deckers like the Citaro and the MANs are available in 3 door form as well.
Actually, because of the lack of demand from LHD countries (mainly ex british territories), there is no 3 door citaros or man low floor chassis or integral buses available yet. Notice that the engine (for citaro and A22) is at the kerb side for us, so unless theres enough demand to redesign every component to fit the other way, it wont happen yet.
