Impossible SMRT will have DD..and there's not such line called Holland Line..not all will be withdrawn or cut down bus fleet...some maybe diverted to other places..and now it's too early to say...admin lock the topic thanks.

190 to downgrade 25 artics to about 18 double deckers.
960 to downgrade 16 artics to about 8 double deckers and 4 single deckers.
970 to cut down 1 single deck and transfer to 960.
Is TS referring to articulated buses instead of DDs?
It's left Thomson & ERL that's yet to be planned.
Furthermore, any LRT lines in Jurong is practically culled.
I'm more prone to think 700, 960 might be culled totally.
960 the most shorten to become Woodlands - Bt Panjang.
190 to be diverted to Shenton Way, keep the Orchard linkage.
171 might be retained w/ 700's axing.
170 is not a typical local service, no comments.
67 might see trips cancellation.
...
if you know who is the TS, then you wont be surprised with his predictions.. i am surprise that he did not mention that Sv190/700/970/971E etc will be extended to Sungei Poyan? or pasir laba road
Actually, if you think abt it, only 23 will mati, the rest no, especially 700. i'm pretty sure 700 will still have an adequate amount of popularity after DTL opens. some from BP may not want to transfer DTL to NSL if they are heading to orchard. same goes for suntec.

The DTL plies to Promenade, so it effectively kills any buses to Suntec. Same goes to Bugis for 960. So 960 is effectively KOed.
That leaves for Chinatown's 190. Likely 190 & 700 will merge.
No matter how much you hate, Bt Panjang residents has first chance of boarding the DTL.

is 700 express? if not then DON'T THINK OF MERGING. promenade still must change to esplanade to suntec right? so DON'T THINK OF WITHDRAWING.
Last but not least, orchard no DTL right?
So DON'T THINK OF CUTTING 700.
Cheers.

Is the PIE able to give you reliability?
I even suspect, when DTL opens, 700 & 960's demand is sure gone for DTL does ply into Suntec & MBFC...
MBFC will be the knocking out factor.

but DTL still must chiong chiong at bukit timah/botanic gardens there leh, and would you like to cram inside a three-carred train wif all the bukit timah and bukit panjang residents? rather take the fast and comfortable bus straight to the city, unless if PIE kena trouble and jams (which happen quite seldomly), then DTL wld do.
i still like the way DTL is not opened yet, otherwise get ready bukit panjang kena property price shootup liao...

How long it takes from Bt Panjang to Promenade & Upp Cross St on DTL?
Let me see
Cashew: 2 mins, Hillview: 4 mins, Beauty Word: 8 mins, KAP: 10 mins, Sixth Ave: 13 mins, TKK: 15 mins, Botanic Gardens: 17, Stevens 20, Newton 23, Little India 26, Bugis: 29, Promenade: 32, Bayfront: 34...
23 mins to Newton, that's still comparable w/ 700 during off peak hrs. But not peak hours...
How to compare w/ Promenade & Bugis.
To me, as long as the direct travelling time is slashed by more than 50%, prepare to see buses to get withdrawn or route mergers.
Let me guess...
Service 190 / 700 - Withdrawn
Service 190, 700 integrate with Service 971E.
Service 971E to start service from Choa Chu Kang (Covering existing Service 190's route from Choa Chu Kang Int to Bukit Panjang Road (Blk 602)
Service 971E to call at bus stops along Petir Road (overtaking existing Service 700)'s balance route.
SMRT wins all.
Service 178 to ply into Bukit Panjang, covering Bukit Panjang Road, Jelebu Road, Cashew Road, Dairy Farm Road, Upper Bukit Timah Road, continuing its original road.
Service 960 to be withdrawn. Duplicate with DTL.
Service 67 will be shortened to ply between Tampines and Little India (Loop) and be returned to SBST.
Service 66 to be retained.
Service 171 will terminate at Choa Chu Kang, plying Choa Chu Kang Way.
Express Service 869 will be introduced, plying from Shenton Way to Singapore Zoo (Via MBS, Esplanade, Orchard, Newton Road, Bukit Timah Road, Whitley Road, BKE, Mandai Road)
With deletion of so many services by SMRT, SMRT to introduce Service 972, plying between Bukit Batok Int --> Hougang Central Int via Bukit Panjang, Yishun Avenue 1, Yio Chu Kang.

the 971E why not change to 790...

I rather they stick to current one, don't withdraw any svces. Those services can still be useful for passengers during peak hours.

EXACTLY! THAT'S WHAT I'M TRYING TO EXPRESS!!! What if DTL has its train in three cars coming in 8 mins? SBS somemore leh... cannot compare MRT experience wif SMRT since she only operated MRT in 2003 while SMRT oredi like 20+ yrs liao... then the situation will be UNBEARABLE since there aren't any Bukit Panjang bus svc to clear some passengers back to their home.
Some might not even like to take MRT in the first place... i still remember a user mentioning he did not like automated trains in the first place... ahh yes, user MoltenFalcon. And what trains do DTL use? AUTOMATED Bombardier MOVIA C951. so a "duplication" may be good... some duplicating bus svc can even show to be even more efficient than MRT, and thus bringing much popularity even when it's duplicating MRT. SO 700/190 will still have a certain but adequate amount of popularity after DTL opens.
I'm not finished yet, sbst275.
Try to think of this: some people living in Pending, Senja might not be able to reach the MRT directly right? Some residents may just take 700/190 that stops just in front of their doorstep and travel straight to the city via the expressway, rather than taking that incompetant LRT and then transfer that chiong chiong MRT that goes circles in the middle-west. And 700/190 DIRECT to Newton/Orchard/New bridge rd/SGH/ Chinatown somemore eh! Just like NEL(which I also hate), it does NOT bring you to important landmarks such as city hall/Marina Bay straightaway, and that's what 75,190,700 and 970 can do. You still have to transfer CCL/EWL/NSL to get there. So look who's in charge here.
And this "rationalisation" thing won't work on Bukit Panjang bus svc. Because this is not like the 2003 NEL Bus Rationalisation, where SBS cuts down her OWN svc. IMO, I think what SMRT will do is that she will improve its Bukit Panjang bus svc instead so that she can compete wif her competitor, because SBS withdrawn its 501 and 502 (northern stretch) only it's due to she has a much better NEL. SMRT definitely may not succumb to SBS liddat. She will (I hpoe that's real) do her best to keep her control of Bukit Panjang like now (hope SMRT really will do that, becoz by looking at SMRT now, I doubt she will really "try her best").
All I wanted to relaese is above. Hope you can understand thoroughly and give me yr true feedback.
Two cents worth. Signing off, SMB128B.
I doubt more than half here in SGF will even know abt Holland Line... leave alone where this svc plies.

Sorry to burst your two cents of worth.
The PIE is always jammed, Stevens Rd exit is jammed. How long it takes to clear Stevens Rd form up to get to Tanglin Mata chu bus stop? 10 mins?
10 mins could get me from Bt Panjang to KAP alrdy. Another 18 mins on the BKE can get me to Little India/ Bugis?
Look, face it, expressway are the worst form of roads esp if there's any accident.
Furthermore, there's a thing called feeder bus. Guess, till to this day your've no idea of the trunk/ feeder concept came up in the 1982 bus plan.
City Hall? Do many alight at City Hall area? If you notice, many alights at Orchard, so 190 can still takeover.
700 & 960 I can say it's fate is almost sealed. DTL plies to Suntec, Bayfront, MBFC (which 700 does not even cover), parts of Shenton Way & Chinatown.
It's not about bowing down to MRT, I guess you've not even seen how the 1987 - 1993 bus rationalisation program was implemented. Did you know 163 used to ply to Marina Square? Did you know 137 used to ply from Toa Payoh to Zoo? But why it was rationalised?
Like it or not, the MRT + feedering concept would inevitably kill off trunk buses. By then, buses could also be redeployed to serve other areas. Dun forget Yishun inner portion is developing.
What's the point of keeping 700 & 960 at all cost when the buses are much needed for feedering at other towns in future?
That's why I've been saying the need of doing housekeeping.
Which is why I've made no mention about 171.
171's fate is still grey, it'll take some time to figure out should it be kept as the main duplicating sv.
