PUBLIC transport operator SMRT has raised the fare of all seven of its special late night bus services from $3.50 to $4.
The increase, which took effect last Wednesday, brings the fare on a par with that of the six late night bus services run by the other public transport operator, SBS Transit.
The fare increase follows the Public Transport Council's announcement last month that the annual public transport fare adjustment will be deferred from mid-year to until after the last two stretches of the MRT Circle Line open in the fourth quarter of this year.
That fare review covers feeder, trunk and express bus services, as well as MRT and LRT trains, but excludes special late night bus services.
Some analysts say raising the fare of special late night bus services could be a way for transport companies to meet rising operating costs before the annual fare adjustment is approved, in addition to increasing rental rates for shop space in MRT stations.
An SMRT spokesman told The Straits Times on Monday: 'While we continue to manage our operating costs, we have adjusted fares for NightRider services from $3.50 to $4 in view of an inflationary and higher operating cost environment, which includes higher energy prices.'

The Nightrider fares increased because the services are not under Distance Fares.
NR6 is just crappy.
With its longish route and ridiculously irregular frequency. (Anything from 5 min to 45 min)
I dont see how SMRT has the audactity to raise the fee.
Fine.
I just dont take NR lor. Share cab is a better choice.
I think NR6's woes came from RWS & MBS amendment.
As w/ SMRT's scheduling issue, it's screwed upside down
When it was only $3, my friend and I (2 persons) waited to board NR3.
Now $4 liao, my friend and I decided to take a cab, which costs only $12 after midnight surcharge. $4 more, why wait for a bus that comes in every 20 minutes.
I think SMRT going to scrap nightriders sooner or later with the lower demand...
Next time overnight must make sure you have enough money le everything rise.
next time go out late at night......
ask yourself this question. do you have $$ for cab?
if answer is no, stay home.
Imagine...
Meal + $2.00
Movie +$0.50
Bus ride + $0.50
Additional $3.00
Old Poly weekly allowance = $50
New Poly weekly allowance = $50
$3 X 4 = $12
Your poly weekly allowance just got cut $12. LOL...

I seriously doubt a meal cost $2 these days though
In the past, for more than 1 time (perhaps abt 3 times), I have waited for the last 2nd night-rider bus and it did not come. (eg, last bus is 4:40am, I at the bus-stop from 4am onwards and the next only bus to come is the 4:40am one) do anyone of you notice this before?
$4 for nightrider really justifies taking taxi for me even if I'm alone. At most $6 - $7 from town. if not just walk home directly, instead of merry-go-round to river valley-orchard road not to mention the excellent freq for NR6.

and I seriously doubt u take 4x nightriders in a week, since u can only do that on fri(sat morning) and sat(sun morning)?

Depends where u stay ba, for most of us staying in the heartlands, taking a cab e.g. back to woodlands will probably burn a big hole in the wallet. Can easily choke up to $30.
Why pay more money for lousy bus services where cabs are faster and cost almost the same?
There is always other choices.

heck, $30 I'd rather spend it on food like BK though, if you ask everyone here.

yep, consider myself lucky in this sense. but waiting for NRs can be quite helpless at times. sometimes other NRs keep coming and your friends all board their NRs for home while you wait for yours with uncertainty.

Maybe you can try 6N or whichever NightOwls that can take you home. At least you know when it is coming.

Isn't this what they are planning all along? Everything that TIBS established well, they want to destroy.

can't take 6N. NR6 is the only nightbus I've got.

Then the choice is yours.
Either you share cab or go home early or else stay all the way till the next morning for the first bus, if you really don't want to take NR.

Extra $2.

Something fishy about this sentence. I bet its due to elections.
Usually PTC announces fare increases in late April, early May, and then increases it on 1st July.

It's pretty obvious that they are delaying for the sake for elections, isn't it?
Once elections are over, then we all will see how much is the extend of adjustments. All in chatoots already.

haix. dirty politics.
There should be free transport for NSFs....
Ministers should take public transports or use their own vehicles.
