At the past can, but now cannot.....
However, I still spot some people tap out the ez-link card early but SL never observed about that.....

If feeder or intratown svc, the SL/BC dun bother.
BTW if they tap out early, the journey more than 1hr wait for another bus for transfer also transfer benefits gone.

actually if feeder or intratown, the SL/BC also shldnt dont bother. There's a difference if u are transferring to a feeder or intratown. If u straight away tap out or tap out before 3.2km cap, still ur fare paid is lesser than what u shld if u travel more than 3.2km.

Pay the correct fare!
rather i'm waiting to see if anyone has better ways of saving fares with new distance fares regime, methods which have not been published. i already know one.

agreed. once saw a feeder with 0.0km reading throughout. zero revenue except for new rides, equivalent to a loss in revenue of up to 40 cents!
My advice: PAY THE CORRECT FARE. Later ticket inspector (?) come do random check then you kena.

Fares start from 0.0km - infinity.
Still earn some money.

maybe tap the card when boarding (or try to skip even that) then when alighting don't tap the card ?
This is not the right way even you want to do something to oppose PAP. In the end, you just end up paying more to them.
what i've been doing to save on fares is to board buses only at the first stop o/s int which isn't that far & doesn't take a lot of effort IMO cause it just happens that I can incur a lower distance and pay one tier lesser (saving ard 5 - 10cts per trip).
find it not worthwhile to pay for the 0.7km for Sv133 from AMK int to Blk 324 as the marginal utility i get doesnt justify the extra cost incurred. same for Sv31 from TPY int to first stop. not forgetting to mention avoiding NEL/CCL if there are comparable alternatives / sufficient time for me to do so.
i guess DBTF has really changed the way i travel, from someone that prefers all-bus trips (within logicality) to finding shorter-distance trips now. it is hard not to be 'efficient commuters' under this framework though i believe older aunties / uncles and less-informed commuters are sticking to their old travel habits and paying more unknowingly..
There's a way.... and its legal...
If you are going somewhere for just a while and you need to go somewhere.... here's what you can do.
You need to take the bus within the next 45 minutes.

(make the next transfer within 45 minutes, within 2 hours time frame)
1230pm - 110pm (190's journey)

110pm - 145pm (Shop at CK Tang / Taka)

i still remember last year, i kena SMRT inspector board TIB 370P svc178 from Woodlands interchange. I pay $0.55 to the china SL coz i know china SL wont KB. KNN. 2stops later, 1 SMRT inspector came up to inspect & the china SL stand up from the driver seat and than look behind & pointed @ me while toking to the inspector. i immediately knew something wrong & quick stand up than press bell to alight. Lucky i manage to escape fast if not have to pay $20 liao.
